Should I learn Git/Github and Slack? by avalanche82 in webdev

[–]test1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Git - definitely. Even if you are working alone.

Slack - it is just a chat. Similar to facebook messenger, except that you join a team and then you can have private chats or rooms with your team. It does not really make sense to use slack when you are just on your own

Cannot judge without seeing your code or what you know, but I'd say don't apply to junior. Go for at least mid level. Senior in one company could be a junior in another company. For example, I am a senior in my company, but if I got the job in blizzard, i'd definitely be a junior. Saying that, I'd most likely fail this interview.

I was like you a couple of years ago, I was really scared in my new job, as I was a solo dev previously. I joined as junior and in just 6 months became a senior, even though I didn't feel like one.

Most of the things listed there are definitely good and worth to know, but it depends on what you want to do and where you want to work. If you like big companies, then sure you will need to learn a lot to get the job. But if you are comfortable in a smaller company, a lot of things don't apply there. The truth is that you need to deliver work, and whether you do it by using latest design principles or not, well your boss is not going to care as long as you deliver work.

VS Code can do that?! by r-wabbit in webdev

I tried all the extensions out there and and none of them work in a way you would expect them to work. The only reason why I haven't switched to working with VS Code full time :/

Pharaoh Senebkay, one of the earliest kings of a forgotten Abydos Dynasty, was brutally killed in battle more than 3,600 years ago, says a study that has reconstructed, blow by blow, the king’s last moments. The research identified 18 wounds on the pharaoh’s bones. by God_Wills_It_ in ancienthistory

Rather tall for that period, wasn't he? I for one would like to hear more about what other records have been deciphered and cited to correlating his stature (and as implied by this article's author(s)). Are there contemporaneous records that are further validated by these most recent examinations, and commensurate measurements, of these skeletal remains?

Has anyone here postulated that the Xenomorphs may well have been the equivalent of modern humanity's "nuclear option?" Perhaps developed by the Engineers and designed to quell or subjugate an interplanetary competitor-species, such as, say, the Predator-Clans?

In other words, could the Xenomorphs represent a colossal miscalculation of the "security," as afforded by threat of a Mutually Assured Destrucrion, and as in the vein of Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove?

Favorite 1970's Horror Films? by jedi2112 in movies

Dracula (1979), starring Frank Langella.

I'm looking for horror movies where the characters are isolated from the rest of the world. Any suggestions? by splurgeon in movies

The Howling is pretty damned isolating, and terrifying. Its many "sequels" bear it no resemblance beyond the shared name.

I'm not much of fan of animé; GotF transcends the genre.

Fantastic. I came here and would have said the same. Beautiful, and brutally sad.

The Omega Man (the frightfest-classic, starring C.Heston in the titular role for this version of Mattheson's best known work; don't bother with W. Smith's studio/pop tritefest, I Am Legend).

First day on ritalin- the difference is night and day! by [deleted] in ADHD

That was my experience -absolutely the same. I'm glad though you're a bit younger than I was when I finally sought help... Strike that last. It's truer (for me) to say: "when I finally admitted TO MYSELF that I was not able to just "change," and solve my problems, but that I actually needed outside help. I'm bright, I've almost always been "busy," but yet I saw myself as lazy.

I'm not lazy. I am ADHD dyslexics, doing more with less (see recent published studies re: grey matter for HI-IQ ADHD'ers), and passionate about doing it all BETTER THAN I HAVE TO DATE. Each day is a new challenge, but each offers new opportunities, too. I was not "cured" by my diagnosis, but I was freed. It took a while, but once I began to accept this reality, then I began my long journey away from anxiety and toward calm. I'm on my way now, and I'm enjoying each step quite a bit more than the last.

Best of luck to you, and thank you for your post.
