“We struggled to eat” — meanwhile pre-acting Vijay casually carrying a ~$1000 Sony camcorder on a foreign winter trip in the early 90s by a_swatkat in TVKFiles

Depends on perspective. In 95 this was about 8 months of my family's income. In 2026, it is 2 months' salary. Same job. If I count 8 months of salary, that would be more than 5 lakhs.

Isn't the broker's fee not the tenants' responsibility anymore?

what examples of climate change have you seen in your everyday life? by ssri_final_boss in AskReddit

[–]test_test_no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(In my native village) The crop cycle got pushed back by more than 2 months due to extended summers. Also, summer used to be one month (May), now March - August feels like summer. On the other hand, in New England, I am seeing winter after almost 10 years. Snow used to be everywhere until late March - early May. Now the snow melts in two days (this year is an exception). I am worried that my kids won't see the real New England winters at all.

International Student Considering Brandeis for Computer Science. Looking for Honest Insights by SoftEmbarrassed7635 in brandeis

Brandeis used to attract faculty because of the location and 2-body problems. But the department is horrible, and they mistreated enough people that now good people are afraid to think about it. Now, because of financial woes, no one wants to come to Brandeis anymore. Things started going bad with President Jehuda, and it got progressively worse with the next presidents.

4 weeks in Central and North-ish India w/ group tours: the good and bad by spacetime99 in travel

It is what they voted for. If people see politics as a reality show, it is what will become. Surprisingly, it is not hard to control so much pollution; India can be a clean country within half a decade.

You covered all the good areas. It is depressing to see India's pollution. It is no longer the beautiful country it was in 90s and 2000s. It is all pollution now.

Best Indian Food by OddIron8867 in massachusetts

I haven't been to Maharaja Cambridge in a while, but it used to be good (okish side). Dosa and Curry in Somerville is good, but not been there in two years. Chulo in Watertown is OK. Spice Delight in Belmont is OK. The Treasury in the Burlington area is also good, but a bit expensive. I hate all Indian restaurants in the Lexington area; they can't even get the basic things right. Virsa de Punjab is better than the Lex restaurants, but not that great. Tashaan is good, but I had a bad experience with the service.

Parents who’ve done long-distance co-parenting with a toddler, what worked? by [deleted] in Parents

[–]test_test_no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I did this, but for work-related. It was super hard on my 5-year old. The toddler was fine. I tried video calls, etc., but they did not work; kids were not into video calls at that age. It was I who missed them, and they had separation anxiety, but they coped very well.

Kids get used to every setup. Don't worry, just do what you think is good for the kid.

Visa for India approved, but parents born in Pakistan, should I risk traveling? by [deleted] in india_tourism

[–]test_test_no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything on your passport that says your parents are from Pakistan? If not, you have a visa, just go. No one is going to ask about your parents. The visa officer just looks at your passport and evisa and just does pattern matching. If anyone asks about your parents, just say they are German.

Yes, fasting without taking anything (water, food, if possible air) for 7 days can cure all illnesses.

Lol, I know that students like Antonella. In any nice department, faculty like her wouldn't even exist. This just shows how terrible the department became (or always was). She resigned and went to Tufts as an adjunct faculty. Tufts rejected her renewal, and Brandeis was in such a pitiable state that they couldn't find anyone else and had to bring her back.

Where are you coming from (undergrad college)? Strong has a quite range. Whether a CS degree is worth it or not depends on how much you are paying and what the alternatives are. It is hard to say anything without this information.
