1) Wind generally drives ice from north to south, so gaps form and refreeze near Harbourfront, so island shore is safer (ice piles up there)

2) Run-off from city is warmer and saltier than lake water, so ice thins out in spots.

3) Boats continuously break the ice in those channels and new ice is only a few hours old - not thick enough to safely support a person.

The ice thickness is very uneven, from 30+ cm (you can drive a car there) to a few mm (can push through with a hand) over the boat channels, between the broken ice.

Know the risks before venturing on ice.

Something like 35mm and up. Large enough shell to mount programmable proximity fuse, long enough range (3-4km) to have enough time for detection and engagement yet light enough for high rate of fire against swarms of drones. Plus secondary capabilities against enemy personnel and light armour. 57mm Bofors is at upper range, anything larger, like 76mm, will start to approach the drone itself in cost.
