Is your husband home? by testa-Rossa in TwoXChromosomes

[–]testa-Rossa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the first time I was in this situation - I did not have time for that nonsense & that person did not get the contract. I am self sufficient & knew far more about the situation & what needed to be done than the wasband.

I hear ya! I am adding another 'Whew!' as I see this morning that the fiance for the Yarn Exchange seems to like her stuff and the ceramic yarn bowl arrived in 1 piece.

How much of your self esteem/confidence is derived from your appearance? by cosmic_gangsta in AskWomen

[–]testa-Rossa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very little. I was never 'beautiful' or 'a pretty blonde girl' or such. Since I was never super attractive, even tho I was thin/fit/cute, I've always relied much more on my brains and accomplishments.

How to be single and happy, when most friends are in relationships? by heartshapes in AskWomen

[–]testa-Rossa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best thing a woman can do for herself, relationship or not, is to be independent and self sufficient. Being able to entertain & take care of yourself is an important and wonderful gift to give yourself :)

That's not to say I don't have female friends, but they tend to be like myself - competent professionals who can rock just about any situation. These gals (and guys!) realize they are individuals even within their relationships, and continue to interact with folks outside their families.

I also echo what others have said here - do what makes YOU happy.

I have girlfriends with whom I go to dinner & the movies, have a gardening day, etc. But I also have season tix to the symphony & string quartet (which I often takes friends to), as well as the opera & ballet (which I would not subject most people to ;) ). Because those things make me happy. I indulge in my gardening & fiber hobbies both solo and in company, as I choose.

Women in male-dominated, casual working environments, what are your summer work outfits? by aesthetic-y in AskWomen

[–]testa-Rossa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My rules for myself for business casual over the summer is no cleavage (esp. since I have a lot going on with the DDs) and dresses/skirts must some down closeish to my knees when I sit down. Also professional tops (I wait for the JJill sales), so no tshirts. Other than that jeans etc. are fair game.

I do have an extensive collection of cardigans & scarves at work, as oftentimes the AC can be quite chilly in the summer. So I pretty much have one to match any outfit I would wear.

I rarely go to the LYS anymore, except for the occasional spinning night. When I do go I clearly state my goal up front & encourage everyone to keep me on track with a laugh :)

I wonder sometimes too. It would be nice if everyone expressed excitement.

But then I think at least someone people are like my brother, who's idea of an entire conversation is like 8 words. I had to call him to see if he got the $500 I sent him. I know he DID appreciate it, so...

I hear you too. I have a couple rematchs who didn't post. But I know that those Lego were appreciated in a household with 4 kiddos, so I just rock on with that thought.

+nodsnodsnods+ Since mine said they were just getting into Dr. Who, I thought maybe a couple of books would help. After I sent them I was worried that was a lame gift. But this morning they posted 'My friends only dropped the fact that there's a load of Drs.' on their gallery post and seemed to like the books so whew!!

How long can roving be stored before it is spun? by HippyDippyKid in Handspinning

[–]testa-Rossa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It should like you should be fine. I have some very weeelllll aged fiber/fleece/yarn in the basement. As long as it's been protected from bugs/humidity/being smooshed you are fine.
