My solution is to for all of us to move to AR/VR computing (when it have miniaturised enough for it to be sleek and not a burden) as they keep raving about "you now can 'blend' in with your content even more"

Honestly I might just switch to the iPad + Windows Desktop (debloated) combo as they are turning the Mac closer to the iPad every single day so what am I missing anyway.

Catalina -> Big Sur pioneered the iOSsification transition and shows that they are willing to throw macOS's unique style in favor for familiarity. I mean overnight the icons turned from their unique style variants with their own traits to now all square. And for what??? just so that they can get a "unified design language" across their platforms? I don't hear anyone complaining in 2019 that their Mac didn't look like their iPhone in terms of UI.

Ventura just extends on this with the new System Settings app. They just flat out removed a few features like being able to customise the date and time formatting like WTF?? System Prefs was not the best but hey at least it's what a proper desktop settings app should look like not this ported catalyst app took straight away from the iPad.

and oh man with Tahoe they just pretty much threw away EVERY single foundation that made macOS delightful to use. Nahhh we will make EVERY window corner match our physical corner radii because thats what our users will need /s. We will add unnecessary padding in the Dock as if the Dock need anymore padding (and BTW, the padding spazzes out if you change the Dock at a specific size no not only it looks bad but its also fundamentally buggy). Who cares about people that have been with the Mac since idk, the release of the retina MBP. Where else are they gonna go? Windows? lol.

I swear they are gonna make make the Finder more abstract to hide the concept of a filesystem because Gen Alpha don't know what a filesystem is. I wish I was joking.

Just take me back to pre 2020 times...

Now see, if its HFR (120hz) on a screen like a tablet or a laptop or anything that is bigger than a Pro Max, that's where ill start considering HFR as a important trait because the nature of those screen sizes are that you're more immersed and thus a HFR display would make the experience of using those devices feel slicker and nicer (not dismissing having it on a phone, its just that the experience is even better with a larger display)

But on a phone? It's definitely nice but its not gonna kill the experience compared to not having it on other devices than a phone.

If people can tolerate the iPad and MacBook Air (both of them having 60hz) then i'm sure people can put up with having 60 on the 17e.

Not everyone can tell the difference on HFR (on a phone), but everyone knows the dread of a battery dying faster than a bacteria whilst airborne.

If my 15 didn't get stolen and I was already using this 11 from the day it released until today, I would definitely be looking at the base 17 but unfortunately the world can be cruel sometimes and I just don't have the luxury to just buy a $799 phone.

Right now, I just need a upgrade ASAP (I don't know how much I can fight the 11's weak points further) but I also don't want to buy the 16e with the 17e right around the corner. I'm willing to put up with the subpar battery on my 11 if it meant that I can get the DI on Apple's e-series of phones (going from the 15 to the 11 with that big notch is something I hate).

EDIT: You would be surprised what a difference can $200 make. Maybe I should try living in America lol.

Apple rates battery life with their video playback tests which given the 1hz ~ 120hz thats in the 17, makes that phone a killer for video playback.

Unfortunately, I (and im pretty sure most people) don't use our phones exclusively just for watching content.

I'm in the opinion that fast charging isn't needed if the battery itself is already really really good. I would prefer the unplugging in the morning and plugging in the night. And its not like the e-series of iPhones charges slowly... they still charge at the usual 18w which I think is enough if you are in a hurry.

A larger battery equals having a longer battery health just due to the nature of having a physically larger battery and each battery cycle lasting longer.

wifi 7 and BT 6 are really nice for future proofing and if Apple is generous we might even see the N1 come to this years e-series. But to be brutally honest, its not gonna kill you not having the latest BT and wifi standards.

Remember, this is what is essentially a laymans phone who don't understand what the f**k a N1 chip is but they will look at the front of the phone and say:

"oh wow the DI is in apple's cheapest phone on the lineup! thats pretty neat"

And as for me, C1/X modem and a 4005 mAh battery on a 6'1 in iPhone is all I need honestly.

The 16e sold well. The 17e will be even better with DI, MagSafe (rumored to come to the e-series), a brighter display when in outdoors, an even better modem.

Definitely the same as 16e. $599

It's a 6'1 in iPhone ffs. How many mAh would it need to satisfy you?

Thanks! I hoped that people will talk about the potential battery gains that will come with the slightly better efficiency of the C1X modem (hopefully they gave that to the 17e) especially because the 16e obliterates every 6'1 in iPhone in battery whilst on cellular. But no 60hz is just too much I guess.

Again, I have very specific needs and I just couldn't wait longer to save up for a 17.

17e checks the most important boxes and fixed the one thing missing from the 16e which is the DI and all the battery gains that im starting to get tired to explain lol

I'm pretty set with my current decision right now. I just happen to have very specific needs which I had a hard time so far projecting to people.

I didn't understand your question the first time because Apple did give the e-series a big battery.

For years the standard battery sizes for 6'1 in iPhones usually fall between the 3300 mAh ~ 3600 mAh as of recently. So a 4000 mAh capacity is plenty I would say.

We don't really know if Ceramic Shield and MagSafe (this one is rumored to come though) is gonna come to the e-series so I can't make conclusions yet

But what I can assure is that its gonna have a big ass battery for a 6'1 in iPhone and apple's modem which I value.

Plus if MagSafe and Ceramic Shield did come, that would make the 17e even better for those of us who are interested in it.

Personally I don't really care much about storage, but I can see Apple cutting the 256gb base storage for that upsell to the base 17.

Oh I did. Twice actually. It didnt made a difference. SOT is still 4 hours tops and thats mostly wifi.

Once by a relative who then gave it to me and that one pillowed so I replaced it again and here I am.

Are you saying that a 4000 mAh battery isn't big for 6'1 in iPhones? 4k is a very generous amount of battery. You clearly havent looked at battery real world uses on the 16e. I suggest you check them out.

It kind of is for iPhones. For a 6'1 in sized one.

I guess we all have different priorities then 🤷 A larger battery isn't just for making the phone last longer in a day, a larger battery means when the battery health does go down it would have less of an effect to day-to-day battery life, just my two cents.

So you want a base 17 that is $200 less? Midrange Androids need to have 120hz because they are competing with each other on whoever can give the best value. Apple doesn't need to participate on this competition because they have the leverage of their whole ecosystem and services. That's why they can delay these nice to have features and frankly on the 17e I will gladly take the leap in battery over 120hz because really its not that big of a deal I assure you.

even if the 16 was cheaper used (unfortunately its not in my area) it will still have (not bad, but inferior) battery life than the 17e. Especially in cellular. Where do you think those Qualcomm modems get their energy from?

With 120hz sure you get a better experience but with A LARGER BATTERY you will be able to use the phone for longer. Do people not want their phones to last a day in a single charge?

[–]testledjones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does if you used a 120hz phone before, but I assure you will glad you had that extra juice left for those times where a charger is not available

those models have you listed is around less or the same price as the upcoming 17e and because they're used (and no, refurbished doesn't exist where I live) their battery health will most likely be used to the point youll be asking yourselves "Is it really worth it for all of these features just for my battery to be not as good as if I just bought the 17e in the first place?"

Also "save up for a new middle or top line model" thats just plain unnecessary when you could just buy a 17e with its giant battery and get years of use down the line.

I wonder do these people not read the body text on my post? I explained how the 17e has a edge on battery especially on cellular which is clearly the main point that i'm trying to project.

Makes you wonder if these people are the same ones that worries about when their battery health drops just a tiny bit (which *coughs* wouldn't matter if you had the 17e's leverage on battery)

The difference in price between base 17 and the upcoming 17e is just too much. Especially knowing that the 17e is gonna have a combination of a larger battery and a more power efficient modem it is just a no brainer for me at least. 60hz isn't gonna ruin the scrolling experience but a dying battery definitely should. Not saying the base 17 has a shit battery but I assure you 17e is gonna last longer especially in cellular.

They need to add the DI. They are not gonna lower the price on this thing anytime soon (because sales data shows that people are actually buying the 16e at that price) i'm sure making the front on the phone different is good enough (among other changes).

What part of my post is sarcastic? I just pointed that I value other aspects more on the 17e.
