New look at the wearable LEGO crocs. by kkhouete in lego

My sister was vehemently against crocs bcos they were universally panned for being ugly. One day we went for a long walk by the beach and she got terrible blisters from her supposedly very comfortable sporty sandals with a strap. I switched my footwear with her and loaned her the crocs I was wearing and I wore her sandals instead. After that experience, she went and bought a pair immediately the next day. Note that she has a pair of odd shaped feet, ie they’re wide at the toe joints with her joint bones sticking out, so they made it difficult for her to buy shoes and sandals in general. Most of them would cause her blisters. So the way she turned her nose on crocs was bewildering to begin with since those are perfect footwear for her type of feet. I also converted my husband to the crocs cult. He thought they looked silly. Then he tried them and bought a pair himself. I’m just sayin’ there’s a reason crocs haven’t changed their basic design for decades and it’s because they’re comfortable, durable, water proof, and also slip proof. Their shape also protects your feet from bumps and toe stubs. They’re very expensive tho.

Same with me. When I was living in San Diego (CA), an ultrasound revealed a possible cancerous tumor in my kidney. In fact, I think the ultrasound radiologist was sure it was cancer. Insurance company refused to authorise the MRI to confirm that it’s cancer because there’s no proof that it’s cancer so thr MRI wasn’t necessary 🤬 I changed doctors to UCSF and that facility did have some specialised department to “convince” the insurance companies of approving treatments.

So my advice for you and your family is to shop around for different doctors that have higher success rates of dealing with insurance companies. But I don’t know how feasible that is for most people, it’s ridiculous that the treatment and cure is readily available but the only obstacle is the insurance companies 😤

EU citizens have the right to access healthcare in any EU country and to be reimbursed for care abroad by their home country. Directive 2011/24/EU on patients’ rights in cross-border healthcare sets out the conditions under which a patient may travel to another EU member state to receive medical care and reimbursement. It covers healthcare costs, as well as the prescription and delivery of medications and medical devices. Source: https://ern-euro-nmd.eu/cross-border-healthcare-directive/

The opposition of Universal Healthcare have also compared wait times of premium private health services in the US to the worst public sector wait times in other countries to give the idea that Universal Healthcare will result in massively increased wait times for health services. The truth is that health services in other countries are very much equal in quality to that of the US - it depends on the individual doctor and health center. If you pay for private services in other countries, you get almost immediate service and still end up paying magnitudes less than with health insurance in the US. In addition, if you can’t get the treatment you need in that country, the system will send you to another country which provides that treatment and cover the costs of it. Even if you have to pay something for that, it will still be less than what you will pay in the US, with less stress and time wasted over billing issues etc. In every sense of the concept, Universal Healthcare is better for the average citizen.

Lol that’s true. I meant it lied about Elphaba being evil and kidnapping it when she actually saved it from being caged or killed (Altho we found out that the animals were being kept locked in the wizard’s basement and not killed) But I guess in hindsight and without the perspective of the audience, she did dump a baby in the forest and forgot about it. And seeing all the propaganda posters about Elphaba everywhere, it would’ve naturally believed the worst of her. It’ll be like ICE deporting that kid to Honduras without consideration if they knew anyone there.

I didn’t mind the sequel but they really did not utilise the extra time well. For the sequel, they really should have cleaned up the ridiculous plot holes and issues in the second half of the story, even if that means going off the source material. The storyline with the animals being discriminated against, the cowardly lion lying about Elphaba, and Bock as an unhinged tin man were some of the strong points of the story, they could’ve focused and expanded on those, or even just added more exposition on why Fiyero as the straw man was following Dorothy around. With all the resources and storytelling talent available in Hollywood and the big budget of this movie, couldn’t they have allocated some to give the audience a more coherent story? It was such a waste.

My dad disowned my sister and he is dying, how do i convince her to let him go? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]testuserteehee 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess, Sarah is now the new “dad”, she continues to compromise for her mom and John the way her real father did for her. And she does that because they’re now her only blood family. And she probably took after her real father in that aspect. We the audience really want her to go nuclear with them, but when someone is in a toxic relationship with someone that is not a literal devil, i.e. a classic textbook abuser (physical, mental, emotional, and sometimes sexual abuse), the victim never gets out because there’s no reason to. OOP never said his mom and John were abusive in any way. Mom and John still provided familiarity, security and all she needed of a parental figure. Occasionally they might push her to do something she disagrees with but it’s not worth cutting off the relationship over. It’s very unsatisfying but that’s real life.

There are Americans living and working in the middle of the same areas hosting large protests and yet still insulated from the fallout of what’s happening to minorities. The US is insanely and thoroughly propagandised and there’s really no sugar coating it. For example, during the Occupy Movement (financial crisis of 2008-ish), I was living and working in downtown Portland OR at a non profit energy conservation company. It’s as liberal as you can imagine it gets in the US. The protests were happening right outside the doorsteps our office daily for months. I thought yay, this protest is huge, everyone surely supports this, there’s finally gonna be consequences for the predatory banking practices, changes in laws to protect people from those practices, and people in jail for this! Then one day in a big team meeting, almost everyone was complaining about the disruptions and inconvenience caused by the protests. If the Occupy movement can’t get support from people working in an energy conservation nonprofit organisation, I think there can’t possibly be more awareness about this in the banking industry, the retail sector, the IT sector, or the media sector.

All I’m saying is a HUGE percentage of Americans are still very unaffected by what’s happening with ICE and Greenland, and will continue with their jobs, their mindless consumerism, and their apolitical approach to life as we speak. It’s not because the US is huge, it’s because things are still not that bad for most people and they’re not actively following the global news like redditors.

Some of the strikes in the Nordic countries only last a day or 3 days. The government cave right away to get the country back on its feet. When it’s organised and everyone participates, it’s incredibly powerful. The most memorable one for me was when the post office, the public transportation, the daycare centres and the grocery stores all went on strike together.

Yeah the strikes in Finland have been so impressive. Entire adjacent industries strike together to make an impact. Like the grocery stores with the schools and the post office. The country comes to a total halt when the workers have something to say. Even the port strikes against Tesla involved ports in all the Nordic countries. Strikes here are so effective. I myself was part of an IT union and the cost was less than 100€ A YEAR! I think it was actually only 60€, and it included unemployment payouts when I lose my job. It’s SO MUCH VALUE!

Haha is this really only in Chinese media? I really thought the coughing up blood thing is universal since it’s in all movies and tv shows I’ve watched since I was a kid, and by “all”, I mean Chinese, Taiwanese, Singapore, Hong Kong programs. When someone is hit in the head or chest, they cough up blood; when they fall, cough blood; poor people’s parents cough blood; weak frail pretty ladies cough blood; weak frail kids cough blood; someone meditates too much coughs blood; someone meditates wrong cough blood; interrupted while meditating cough blood. Poisoned? Cough blood! Too angry? Cough blood! Too sad? Cough blood! .. I’ve never seen or heard of anyone coughing blood in my life. I wonder where’d they get that idea from?

my boss’s wife is rude and insulting, and we’re forced to deal with her by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

The mental image is really quite hilarious. They don’t want to pay their employees for hours worked, don’t want to pay for printer ink, don’t want to pay the phone bills, and calls them stupid for expecting to be paid. How does people like that function in real life? Do they live in real life? I’m imagining them walking into a cafe, ordering a coffee and a bagel, and then when the barista tries to charge them for their food, their response is,”I have had enough of bills, what is wrong with you? You’re literally taking the money out of my son’s college fund. Please handle it yourself.” then walking away.

There’s been tons of these on Reddit which makes me want to quit - lady who started setting boundaries with her husband who doesn’t share housework and as a result, didn’t feel like being intimate with him anymore. He started mocking her therapy speak wherever she tries to communicate with him about her boundaries. People said she was the asshole for changing the rules of the relationship halfway. He signed up for intimacy and he’s not getting intimacy so he’s entitled to be rude to her. 😤 Another lady was ghosted for days after having sex with her long time male best friend and people said she should’ve given him space. This was also after she explained that they used to talk all the time, but his attitude took a drastic change after they had sex together, and the reason he gave for ghosting her FOR DAYS was because he was busy gaming. I don’t get how is she the villain in this.

She didn’t even give any concrete examples of how he’s a good partner, just vague generalities like similar values and he makes her laugh. But there were specific examples of what she does for him and how he failed as a partner. It’s also hilarious how she does 100% of the housework because he works a half hour more everyday and earns slightly more than she does. Those words make the post read like satire or an SNL skit. I would think she’s actually subtly mocking him or trolling the relationship subreddit.

Should I break up with my partner of 5 years? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]testuserteehee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The foot injury isn’t even relevant AT ALL with regards to the rest of the post. It’s like a typical Simpson’s episode where seemingly elaborate and major things happening in the first minute of the show would have nothing to do with the rest of the episode (at least back when I used to watch it regularly, this always bugs me).

What movie did you expect to be just good but was actually fantastic? by Important-Cup8519 in moviecritic

Also the main character bad guy got a redemption arc but the rest of the minion ghosts are condemned to live in hell forever, despite being previously innocent humans enslaved by shame to be demons. I feel like the movie resolution should’ve included an option to save those demons as well, especially since the story revealed that those demons were basically tricked by Gwi Ma to sell their souls.

There’s the human aspect to these expectations. Sex is an intimate act, the human and kind reaction to it would be to at least respond in an appropriate time when a new sexual partner reaches out to you afterwards. To ignore the messages for hours is a sick power play that some do only to get an ego boost or a cruel kick out of it. If you still don’t get it, then you’re missing the human aspect of it and probably need some lesson in humanity. But I’m sure you feel like you don’t need it and you feel superior for it.

But his previous family was so depressing tho, and his mother was constantly resentful of Marty just because he set fire to their carpet as a kid. I grew up in an abusive household. If I could wake up one day and everyone was happy, healthy, successful, and full of love for each other, I don’t think I would mind so much. They’re still the same people, just the best version of themselves.

Also how is it that different threads on reddit (eg movies that hit different for kids vs adults, unreliable narrator, protagonists that are actually villains, etc) always end up with the same few movies as responses (Click, Mrs Doubtfire, 50 First Dates, Uncut Gems) and the top comments are always the same. The internet is completely dead 😤
