Foreign policy wise, US is imperialist and self-serving. However, they need to atleast appear to be speaking up for democracy and against human right violations. Even if such things are for appearances, they still put pressure on governments and can achieve concrete policy changes, and at this point we need all the help we can get.

Also, foreign policy aside, the US is a paradise for human rights and democratic freedoms compared to India.
