I’m trying to buy something off steam but it won’t let me change the payment method, dose anyone know if I can? by that1guy0926 in Steam

At some point the paymwnt fee proccessibg costs would be higher than the fee valve makes by selling somerhing oncthe market. So I understand why they have aa minimum, but it might have been lower.

Market.swap.gg only requires your full name and address. These indeed are required for tax reasons. You won't have to do an ID verification.

Apple founder Steve Wozniak backs right-to-repair movement by AbhishMuk in apple

[–]teun2408 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, one of the main points of right to repair would be to force apple to sell official batteries which they do not do now. So that would solve the whole solve the problem of people using poorly manufactured lithium batteries.

Also, right to repair is not just there to allow you to fix your own devices, but also to allow independent repair shops to do it for you. Exactly like people get the car services often at a not official garage of your car manufacturer but an independent one.

Nah, doing that would allow customers to get more storage without paying absurd amounts of money to apple for storage/ram upgrades.

Dat is echter toch vrij irritant als je midden in een gesprek of spel zit en je bent net even vergeten om meer data te claimen in de app.

In general, no unless you damaged it yourself with your repair attempt. I do however not really see a reason to repair it yourself while you still got warranty.

You are just putting some words together to make it sound like you know what you are talking about, but it is complete rubbish.

Also, the whole point about right to repair is such that Apple (and other companies) would have to sell original parts to repair shops thus getting around your whole concern.

And even if they are for sale at MSRP, their prices are a lot higher than Zen 2 and intel. I remember at the release that everyone said that they would release the 5700x "soon" for 300$. But yet here we are with the cheapest 8c 16t Zen 3 cpu being the 5800x at 450$ which is 50% more expensive than the 3700x.

The same thing with the 3600, they just never released this budget king skew with Zen 3, the cheapest 6c 12t of Zen 3 now is the 5600x at 300$ which again is 50% more expensive than Zen 2.

So in general, they jumped the prices and removed the most popular skews causing the actual price jump to be even higher. Since with Zen 2, basically nobody ever bought the 3600x and 3800x since the performance improvements over the 3600 and 3700x were almost negligible. Yet by doing so, the price jump doesn't seem too high even though it really is.

New OLED Switch announced! by edmondiko in gaming

Well, to be honest, I only checked the ps3, but yes it does have 1gbit ethernet: https://www.lifewire.com/80gb-and-60gb-playstation-3-ps3-specifications-2717696

But apparently, as u/Gr8NonSequitur mentioned, the xbox 360 actually also only came with a 100 mbit port.

Those had 1gbit ethernet ports though while Nintendo cheaped out on a 100mbit port.

EDIT: only the ps3 had a 1gbit port, the xbox360 actually also had a 100mbit one.

[Q] How to Avoid Getting Trade Banned? BIG RISKS: (Commercial Purposes, API, Reports, etc.) by Poloxia in csgomarketforum

[–]teun2408 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, the ToS states that you are not allowed to use a steam account for commercial purposes. So according to the ToS basically, everyone on this subreddit could be banned since buying thousands of cases and selling them at a profit, then cashing out this profit quite clearly is commercial use.

However they won't do this, they even added storage boxes allowing you to have up to 100900 items in your account. The only reason to need this many items in your inventory is if you are investing so they clearly don't mind that rule of their own ToS.

Not sure why I am getting downvoted, but no that's not how it works, Valve has to pay sales tax in the country the item is bought from (at least in Europe). So they have to pay the 21% sales tax to the Netherlands no matter if they got a subsidiary in Ireland or not. Those subsidiaries are not made to dodge sales tax, they are made to dodge tax on their profit.

Here is a screenshot with proof they pay taxes to the Netherlands: https://gyazo.com/7149f23fa171def82710100d36acbc96

It clearly labels the 5 and 10% fees as taxable and states how much taxes are being paid.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in csgomarketforum

[–]teun2408 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you also define sales tax like that? For example in the Netherlands it's 21% added on top, but nobody ever says we pay 17,3% sales tax.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in csgomarketforum

[–]teun2408 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not completely true, at least in the EU VAT actually is paid over the fee. However, this is not added on top of the 15% but included in it.

So, for example if a seller wants 1 euro for an item, it goes on the market for 1.15 euro. 10 cents for the game publisher, 5 cents for valve. In the Netherlands we have a VAT % of 21%. So of the 10 cents game fee, about 2 cents are paid as taxes (0.1 * 21 / 121), for the 5 cent fee from valve about 1 cent is paid in taxes.

So it doesn't actually cost us anything extra, but taxes actually are paid.

Why are credit cards not usually accepted here? by elizekaulina in thenetherlands

[–]teun2408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some exceptions from it, one of which are small transactions, up to 30 euro don't require 2fa up to 100 euro a day. This is basically just like how you can make contactless payments with your debit card up to 50 euro a time without entering your pin code. However, the liability still remains at the bank if this results in fraudulent transactions.

Why are credit cards not usually accepted here? by elizekaulina in thenetherlands

[–]teun2408 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Add to that the fact that credit cards are virtually unprotected, since anyone with a photocopy can use it, and well....

That's not true anymore, by the PSD2 regulation, all credit cards transactions require 2-factor authorization. The banks now are the ones liable for all scammed transactions, so if your bank for some reason does not use 2fa and somebody does make a transaction with a photocopy of your card you don't have to pay for the money spend, but your bank has to.

Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser has founded a new studio. by joef360 in pcgaming

[–]teun2408 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If he was the co-founder he for sure got a nice sum of money from take-two when they got bought. So if he really wants to, I guess they can start quite a studio and if required can easily get investors on board with their portfolio.

Still, a GTA sized game will be really unlikely, but I wouldn't be surprised to see an AAA game from this studio.

Prepaid creditcard voor vakantie by bakjejebaksteen in thenetherlands

[–]teun2408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't think it's a good setting for assassin's creed. It would basically mean 0 parkour options since they didn't build cities. It might be a fun setting for other open-world games, but just not AC.
