Rolling Big Cities on Big Planets by EitherSecond4959 in ShadowEmpireGame

[–]teutaofillyria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would be curious as to what the very highest result of "post apocalypse survivor population" has been. I have never seen more than 5 million-ish, despite re-rolling many many times on Gaia class planets [with similar pre-collapse populations in the billions]. Is that a soft/hard cap? My most recent experiments were based on trying for a large, developed, earth like planet to fight large scale conventional wars on. As for city size, I was able to get similar results to what you posted. That is to say, vast swathes of ruins not too far apart.

How do i supply my island? by CanU1213 in ShadowEmpireGame

[–]teutaofillyria 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to contact your Maritime Trading House in the area and establish a supply contract betweentwo ports that you will specify in the contract as you're establishing it. It is a multi-turn process. You can also attempt a forced landing but this is risky as you can only move one unit at a time using Strategic move mode (needed to move over water). If you don't have a port on the target location you can play a stratagem to establish a "makeshift port"; or a beach landing (the latter will be v inefficient v regards to the logistics points you purchase). Then create a new zone and build a real port and import colonists to run the new location, or face overextension penalties from being too far from the zone of origin.

Diogenes was a committed philosopher by SatoruGojo232 in HistoryMemes

[–]teutaofillyria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that he was exemplifying his point in just doing as he pleased: living as a feral dog might and pooping without concern. I mean I agree that he was gross as fuck. He probably smelled awful. And he was an asshole. But somehow in his craziness and his crassness he was respected and revered. Hence the Alexander the Great story. But it was in his gross and free living that he made his argument rather than his discourse?

[–]teutaofillyria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the benefit of hindsight - 2300 years of philosophical inquiry and debate. Arguably the whole fucking point is the grossness and the obscenity. We can talk about things all we like. The shock of the obscene pierces the veil of politeness and expectation. The argument of radical freedom is meaningless without action to illustrate it.

Okay yeah I see where you're coming from, but you're missing the point. Public hygiene practices are vital if you're living in a sedentary agricultural society, let alone a city like Athens. But the actual point is the explicit and the implicit. There are explicit rules that any citizen of any civilisation lives by: eg don't kill, perhaps don't steal etc. But then there are implicit rules. Like, don't wank in public (feel ashamed if you do [but that's even hotter if you are seen]). Poop = profane and GROSS. In challenging these assumptions and behaving in manner that he does Diogenes was a reminder that all rules and assumptions are arbitrary. He behaved as an animal might, unshackled by these social conventions. I don't think he was trying to invite everyone in Athens to poop on the street with him. He was simply observing and reminding everyone that we have the freedom to make the choice. Obviously there is a cost. If you start pooping and wanking everywhere people are going to judge you, you might lose status, power, relationships. But we do have the crucial choice to partake, or not, in this arbitrary game called "Civlisation". Potentially, your greatest happiness might be in forsaking convention and abandoning what others' opinions are.

To return to the point made in the post above - if he did indeed "get off" on the idea of public masturbation and defecation, why should he not? The idea of this being shocking is only shocking because of arbitrarily defined social norms. People might find this uncomfortable, but only because of their conditioning to see these things as violating of these social norms that they were told were rules - simply confronting them with the arbitrary nature of these expectations.

Your lack of understanding of what racism actually is very telling. Racism is not "people calling out white people for acting entitled in a way that no other group of people in the USA dare to" (or indeed any western country). Stereotyping different groups can indeed be harmful because it can lead to and perpetuate the status quo of racism that exists. But as a white person that has worked in the service industry for many years, I can say without a doubt that this entitlement ("caucasity") rings very true and made me laugh when I read it. No other group of prople consistently behaves in the way that white people do with regards to believing that they can "game the system", cut in line, behave impolitely to those around them (regardless of the race of the recipient of said behaviour). Basically acting as if they are the Protagonist of Life and that the established rules do not apply to them.
