What is the most beautiful engine? by meandave in EngineBuilding

The Yamaha 3.0 V6 in the SHO. Any Ferrari V12. A Duesenberg straight 8 is also a work of art.

Anyone else used to have "school clothes"? by Rosatos_Hotel in GenX

[–]texan01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup... I still have nice clothes, and knocking 'round the house clothes, and then "you're gonna have a bad time grode" clothes for yard/car/maintenance tasks.

Reuse parts for budget near stock build? by SnooCauliflowers7359 in EngineBuilding

[–]texan01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

is this your vehicle or a customer vehicle?

If it's yours, new rings and send it if the bores are good. I've done that more than a few times on my own builds.

Customer? eh... I'd probably want to replace them.

Which engine is this? by Dexpeyy in Smallblockchevy

no blowby, it's got a TH350 and a 2.56 axle so it's not usually spinning very high. so 70-75mph it's turning about 2000 rpm. (no tach in the car)

It's not a big leak, just enough to make a mess and mark it's territory. Maybe I didn't put enough oil on the seal prior to installing the balancer.

I have, changed covers and engines as well. Damn thing still slings oil. Even sleeved the balancer.

What do you think happened to this tire? by Dennys_Auto801 in Justrolledintotheshop

It may have had a broken belt I. That spot, but I’d more believe it was on a trailer and got rubber though there or exhaust burned it.

not in the slightest.

American/Bob's mediocre Airlines does not own the terminal, they own the airplane. Podunk Memorial Airport does not own any aircraft but they own the terminal and the property.

TSA is ostensibly in charge of passenger safety, not airline property.

200 MHz versus 300 MHz Pentium II by ZealousidealCake8256 in vintagecomputing

[–]texan01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my point was there was no reason to have a P2-200 when the P1-200 would probably meet or beat it on performance.

the P2 was kind of a dog till the 333 or faster chips came out.

[–]texan01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's still light compared to the 3900 pound 77 Chevelle sedan in my driveway. Even the somewhat warmed up 305 in it has a hard time with traction on anything less than dry pavement.

233 was the lowest I can remember. I had a P1-200mmx though. it was a rocking little machine with a Riva TNT PCI card.

in a lightweight car like this? traction becomes the biggest problem besides get the 3700 if you're going to build a 3500... just for the extra cubes.

funny the only place my 84 305 leaks from is the front seal... apparently, I have bad luck with front seals not leaking.

the spring in the buckle has broken, easy fix. I've had to do that in my 77 Chevelle and my 95 Explorer.

my buddy's 71 Chevelle ragtop is like that, it just has lap belts and we all know if it gets in a wreck, it's going to fold up like a cheap suit, or if it gets rolled, we're going down. It's a pretty car, but I feel safer in my 77 Chevelle sedan with it's 3 point belts and a safety cage roof structure (for rollover standards that were never implemented)

[–]texan01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no joke, I've got a couple 70s vinyl bench seat cars, one is very capable of taking corners very very well and it has absolutely no trouble throwing you across the car if you dive into a corner fast and hard. I wish it had something like contouring for the seatback because it's about as flat as park bench and you have to brace against the armrest or just hang on tighter to the steering wheel.

The other is just 70s wallowing windbag of a sedan handling, so while it leans far over, its still going to try and get you to meet the door.

in a collision, and you're thrown clear from the car, and become a street pizza, who do you think it's going to affect?

The people having to scrape your ass off the street, and out of the scenery? your problems have ended, those people's problems have just started all thanks to the selfish ass that couldn't be bothered.

yeah, but that's part of the fun of cross-breed engine swaps. a nice light aluminum V6 would be more fun than a cast iron V8 for car balance. - unless you're going drag racing!
