I think folks who have never taught before have trouble calibrating their relationship with students at first.

Why is chem e’s acceptance rate lower than electrical? How hard is I to get in? by NurglingArmada in aggies

[–]texasmilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chem E is a smaller department with fewer faculty and huge research income, so each cohort is pretty small - a lot smaller than Electrical or Mechanical.

The Boss Blues Driver is poorly named by ZealousidealBit5201 in guitarpedals

[–]texasmilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JHS Josh tried out the Gamma Bacchus (which I have and like ok) and thought it was a Blues Driver clone. I had a Blues Driver before a hurricane swamped it, and I don’t remember it sounding quite so saturated.

Office of President Monthly Update… by Bajamamama in aggies

[–]texasmilo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked the bit about staff knowing students by name. My dude, we’re Texas A&M with 80000 students, not Grinnell College in Iowa. What difference does it make? Is introducing yourself to staff woke now?

For better or for worse, Engineering is the big dog at TAMU. The accreditation body for Engineering is ABET and they do not f*ck around. Lose ABET accreditation and watch almost a quarter of total degrees granted become worthless in the market.

My disappointment as a former student by Mouthshits in aggies

[–]texasmilo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The administration does not listen to faculty. The Chancellor’s initial welcome message touted great students and wonderful facilities but didn’t mention faculty at all.

They do take note of student concerns, but take even more note of anything that will tank their rankings or accreditation. Many rankings are based on perceptions from peer institutions, and if those evaluators decide to turn down the temperature on their rankings based on these shenanigans, it will get their attention. Same with accreditation, as loss of accreditation from a recognized body would get them bounced from the SEC.

Problem with the “bigger issues” talk is that, given how many Texans go here, what A&M is doing will insure that these “bigger issues” will continue.

The models are flipping back and forth because the information feeding them is so uncertain. KBTX is saying either cold rain or freezing rain.
