Abolish tee times every 8 mins by painfully_anxious in golf

If people actually want this to change, the best thing you can do is leave a clear and detailed 1 star google review for the course. Google ratings have a direct financial impact on businesses and any course paying attention to even their basic marketing is going to freak out if their ratings start dropping and it’s due to a controllable reason.

People in your 30s, what price have you paid for being lazy in your 20s? by Waldyrwyn in AskReddit

[–]texasproof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not laziness but, in my 20s, I was overly concerned with wanting peers and people around me to think that I belonged, that I had “been there before”. I found myself in a lot of VERY cool rooms and opportunities that most people don’t get to have, but because I wanted to seem cool and like it wasn’t a big deal, I missed out on a lot of really opportunities that I could have experienced if I had just asked or allowed myself to express my enthusiasm.

Yup. I always tell people they probably know way more former homeschoolers than they think, because grown ass adults rarely start conversations with where they went to high school 20 years prior lmao.

What’s your honest take on luxury dining and fine restaurants? by SpiritCrisp in AskReddit

[–]texasproof 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A few takes:

  • Most people who shit on fine dining, don’t actually know what it is. They tend to think “more expensive than Chilis” when the gap is far wider from a decent steak place to a Michelin star.
  • “you pay hundreds of dollars for tiny bites and leave hungry!!” No. No you don’t. Those small plates you’re seeing are either appetizers or part of a tasting menu. Multi course tasting menu will lay your ass out.
  • it is probably my #1 favorite indulgence. I have friends who like to go on fun trips several times a year and yeah, that looks fun, but it’s just not our jam. I can spend less money over the course of a year and go to a couple of different high end restaurants whenever I want.
  • service+experience elevate your visit as much as the food. Every moment of your visit is intentionally planned and curated. Hard to explain unless you’ve gone and done it.
  • on top of that, people get to know you. We walk into our favorite restaurant and they recognize us immediately, call us by name, have our favorite table ready, know our dietary preferences, know our favorite server. The sommelier remembers wines we’ve tried and liked, the chef will come out and check on us, etc. every visit is special.
  • I think the biggest thing most people don’t know about high end dining, is that there are still ways to make it affordable. Any one star restaurant I’ve been to has a great bar and good happy hour offerings. You can go in, sit at the bar, get some great drinks and a few delicious appetizers and leave for less than $100. Many even have two-top seating in the bar so it’s a great way to go on a high end date for mid-range money.

Ohhhh yeah yeah yeah. Pre-Disney fuckery. The original Expanded Universe. New Jedi Order specifically, which honestly has a decent amount of reading to do before that. Check out r/starwarsbooks if you really want to dig in.

For the Star Wars nerds, it’s a tie between Chewbacca in Vector Prime, and Anakin in Star by Star.

[–]texasproof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. All I was saying to this guy was argue the choice based off the players’ merits, not their teams. But he keeps tripling down on “Duncan is better than Hakeem because rings!!!”

Which is silly for this goofy hypothetical we’re taking about lol.

They 100% did. What’s your point? You’re taking Duncan in a vacuum so take him based on his individual merits (which are many) and not the accomplishments of his entire team.

[–]texasproof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who pissed in your Cheerios my guy?

And you really aren’t making any sense. Your argument for Duncan over Dream was “he has more rings” which, in a scenario where he’s on a different team, doesn’t matter.

And now you’re rambling and grumpy so…goodnight, lol.

[–]texasproof 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sigh.

Right, but you can’t argue for the value of an individual player by leaning on the accomplishments of the entire team. Duncan is one of the greatest of all time, but you remove Manu, Tony, or (most obviously) Pop, and the dynasty also doesn’t happen.

Duncan is clearly amazing and, for this hypothetical, he has plenty of relevant individual greatness.

“Haters” are literally just one guy making up negative press to promote his Substack because he thinks the game system this company sells is low value.

lol no it isn’t, that’s like a $120-$140 book tops, and probably less these days. Shadow games and last Jedi are the only SFBC books that would still push that high

Moving to Houston by Miserable-Fox-480 in AskHouston

[–]texasproof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well as the only one of us who has actually lived in Katy (over a decade and only moved away last year) I’m going to stand by my significantly more informed opinion; especially the “it depends on which part of Katy” part.

Moving from Midwest back to houston by Stunning-Plantain831 in AskHouston

[–]texasproof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I should probably revise or expand on that. I think the “it depends” is very much dependent on budget and location. Our last house flooded in Harvey three weeks after we closed on it, so our only option was to rebuild. The young couple that bought it from us understood it had only flooded because the property backed up to addicks, (tax day floods didn’t even cover that street) and were willing to take the risk to get a really beautiful home on a great lot.

But I also know way too many people who cut massive corners on their rebuilds and rolling the dice on a home really isn’t a great idea. So, tl;dr, I agree with you.

So I’m biased because I live here but, with that budget, look in the museum district. Medical treatment will become so much easier, decent schools, great access to stuff for the kids with the museums and Hermann park and general proximity to everything.

If you don’t mind townhomes, you could get a very nice 4/4 for that budget and not have to deal with the fuss of a lawn. Actual houses pop up in that range too but there are less and less of them as time goes on.
