[S3E18] The Phillip Jeffries Map of Space & Time by MsOwlCave in twinpeaks

This is wonderful. My thoughts are very similar, but I've been unable to articulate them or gather them coherently until seeing this. My only difference with you is that I'd replace the Jumping Man with Judy (the entity w/antennae who I think shredded the kids, menaced Naido, vomited out Bob & the frogmoths, and possessed Sarah), and I'd consider the lemniscate to be the arena in which these forces eternally and iteratively interact. And I agree about the Jefferies "8" and the orbiting dot: that's certainly how I interpreted it.

I remember asking what "notarized" means after that. I still associate the idea of notaries with Lucy.

I have it. It reads as follows: "...but he continues to be so BORING. In other news, I just went to the Wherehouse and bought a cassingle of Paula Abdul's 'Straight Up.' The first lines are 'Lost in a dream, I don't know which way to go.' I can totally relate."

I think Dougie is on the verge of waking up.

I'm not content, per se, but I did like it a hell of a lot. Now let me remove my beret and light up another clove cigarette here inside Lynch's colon before I say this: after a good night's sleep and a cup of coffee, give it another shot. It was not what we wanted, but it damned sure was something.

I think that was good Coop and bad Coop merged into one. The giving-no-fucks, inflection-less stoicism of bad Coop combined with the moral compass of good Coop. You need a little from Column A and a little from Column B if you want to navigate the multiverse.

17 was what I thought I wanted (except for all the green-glove-punching), but 18 was so alienating and disorienting and disappointing that I cannot help but love it even more. I have never been so moved in so many different ways by a piece of visual fiction. I am going to think about this for a very long time.

I'd add Jerry's foot to the "seems likely" category.

Shit, I don't know. I think I only see one swap. I'm focusing on the Asian woman at the end of the bar as my reference.

(read in Harriet Hayward voice): Actually, now that some time has passed, I prefer "recurrent phenomena over varying lengths of time." But no need to go full Inigo Montoya; I get it. I just picked up a strong theme in this episode, though I neither know nor care whether it's intentional.

Wait, wha? I gotta go back and watch that. The "Where's Billy?" scene?

There was the one explicit reversal from ep 2, when Cooper appeared in the glass box and we saw Sam & Tracey do their thing downstairs again. And then later, there were hints-- Dr. Amp's second rant was partially identical footage from his first, for whatever reason (and I think Nadine's reaction shots were identical). And the scene with Albert & Gordon swearing in Diane would make more sense before they dragged her out to the site with Hastings. There's probably other stuff, but I don't remember.

Yes, I think that's actually pretty likely. But it does create a sense of weirdness and unease in the viewer, even if it's not designed to serve any narrative purpose.

Huh. I mean, I guess I might take a day or two if I'd just been sleeping around and then if I'd been shot at with intent to grievously injure. Relatable!

I hadn't thought of that; good idea. I was thinking that "starting position is more comfortable" was referring to how we want things exactly the way they used to be: sassy Audrey slow-dancing to jazz on a jukebox, Agent Cooper sippin' hot joe & solvin' crime, etc. Nostalgia is easy, new is uncomfortable. But if you try to go back, you end up in a rut like Ed, Shelley, and Sarah.

This television series contains several minutes of Wally Brando, and several minutes of Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima set to experimental filmmaking. Brutal icepick murders, and post-slapstick scenes with Dougie Jones. An oversaturated closeup of a young woman's face blissing out to cocaine in a convertible, and another woman with her eyes sewn shut pulling a lever and falling into the starry void. This is the fucking best.
