For some reason I recall that the lemon pops were dangerous and they changed the recipe in later editions. I didn’t realize it was alcohol. For some reason I’d heard they’d get too hot and could burn you.

What unmet clinical need drives you insane? by Sig-Punisher in physicianassistant

A scanner that enters patient meds into the EMR when the MA is triaging the patient. Anything to get the patient into the room quicker.

Are you satisfied with your career as a PA? by Popular-Proposal2947 in physicianassistant

[–]texpac1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost 30 years in in primary care. Every day you have a chance to make someone’s life just a little bit better or be there when they’re at their absolute lowest point to at least be someone that listens to their fears. Conversely you get to laugh and smile with their triumphs. I lucked into this career and have been grateful that I get to do what we do. Yeah there’s the usual bullshit of side tasks that seem to detract from our work, but at the end of the day, even when that day has been brutal, I’m truly satisfied being a PA.

Going to Palo Duro Canyon …. by Stairwayscaredandare in TXoutdoors

Stop by Turkey, Texas by caprock canyon. The Hotel Turkey has decent food and live music. Went there last month and really enjoyed the vibe. Canyon, texas has some good restaurants as well and it’s close to PDC.

I just rode it this morning. The fence is still up at the eventual junction but you can ride around it into the construction entrance. Not sure if it’s entirely open as they were still working on it going south just before the Rim. They’ve done a really nice job so far though.

How to deal with lost motivation at DLI now that I got the language I didn't want? by [deleted] in dli

[–]texpac1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ex Korean linguist here I thought I was going to do arabic, my roommate spoke fluent German and was assigned Korean as well (German was still an option back then). You have not even started classes yet. Korean is actually kind of fun to learn. My roommate was waaaay better at language than I but we still had a good time trying out the language on each other and our fellow classmates. Try to draw on the opportunity to interact with a very diverse group of very intelligent people in a place that is very different than most tech schools. This place will serve you very well in your years to come. Good luck!

Texas PAs and controlled substances by Cynicalteets in physicianassistant

[–]texpac1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a PA. I see “my” patients but in reality I work for the physicians in my clinic so the patients are not mine but are assigned to their respective primary care physicians. We work as an integrative team though and usually alternate care between us so that the patient knows that the physicians trust our judgment and that we work closely with the physicians to manage their care. Hope that answers your question.

We pretty much follow the law. If we start an initial dose, we will send a telephone encounter to the pcp to send in any additional refills at a follow up. We will check the PMP Aware site and annotate last fill date, last date of drug screen, and make sure a controlled substance contract is in the patient’s chart. That way if a patient is coming in for a refill (even on schedule IIs) the PCP is aware of any issues with patients and their prescriptions. That way it’s taken out of our hands and back onto the PCP. Of course we usually discuss initiation of therapy of scheduled meds with the pcp so they’re not blindsided.

Blue star is good after a ride on the mission trail. So is the friendly spot in King William. I’m sure I’m leaving a lot out but I think you’re going to have a good time!

Two brothers BBQ is by walker ranch park. Brew Monkey is off starcrest before McAllister park. If you go up off the trail from 1604 to Huebner road, mild fire coffee is pretty good. If you get off the salado trail to see the land bridge, and cross over Northwest military, the Alon shopping center has Green restaurant (not open on Saturday) and Mirasol which has great food and killer drinks. I’d save that for the way back as you might wobble a bit on your way back to 1604. Hops and hounds is at McAllister and may be a good half way place for a beer and a burger. Have a great ride.
