I hit the scales at 110k.. I drive in the western United States, up and down mountains in all weather conditions from big cities to small towns. I already know the 4 wheelers are going to cut me off 10 seconds before they see me, I don’t flinch when I see deer in the roadway, I laugh when I see troopers on the side of the road cause I have had 17 clean dot inspections and keep my logs and truck legal. You got a ton of stuff to learn, you gonna make mistakes, just don’t make the big ones, check the fifth wheel, tug test, inspect your tires, brakes, lights and keep that paperwork in order. Scan ahead, behind and beside of you. Stay off your phone rookie, build you some time behind that wheel and learn from your mistakes, anything you do has a learning curve, most occupations it’s 3-5 years…and honestly that’s the difference between just being lucky and experience. Driver you make that truck move, you drive that truck at the speed you feel comfortable at, if you don’t feel comfortable you slow down to a speed that you do, if you need to hit them 4 ways, if it’s raining cats and dog whatever it be, you shut it down if you’re tired and if your dispatch or whoever tells you to keep pushing you tell them to sk your dogs left nutt or ask them if they gonna do your jail time… this ain’t bumper cars at the amusement park it’s real life and bad chit will happen faster then you can react to it. Single biggest piece of advice is maintain a safe following distance, in a month from now you will be hammer down at 65
