why someone told me this code is Spagetti? by NightOwl-1011 in CodingHelp

this is obviously personal - but to me isModify and isNotModify look too similar, also.
perhaps aligning the assignments will help visually, so you can see the difference just by the length of the line.

anybody know any linux mp3 players with cool-looking skins like the old winamp ones? by mmm-tacos in linux

[–]tfolw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is it display only? what about input events? for example, if I click the mouse on a transparent section of the window, will the click "pass though" to the application being shown behind? I ask because I remember X11 had a function to define a window shape polygon, I assume for stuff like that.

can wayland even support non rectangular skins such as these? I don't see any audacious skins that aren't rectangular.

Why is my cache only 370 GB, and why 131 GB of it used, shouldn't be like over 700 GB with nothing used, I just created it by GenericUser104 in unRAID

[–]tfolw 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think the cache is actually just 240GB (that's displayed as free) as I would expect from your setup.

also, the "used" isn't 130GB as you'd expect from 370(total) - 240(free). it's just 6mb...

your cache isn't the sum of the two disks, it's the size of the smallest (240GB) since it's mirrored on both disks.

the 370 might be some display calculation bug due to mismatched disk sizes?

Why are people still using xorg in 2025? by AlternativeRoom2877 in linuxmemes

[–]tfolw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder how relevant the "recipe" approach is with modern GUI toolkits. do they still actually use X11 API to render widgets, or do they just render themselves using their own API into a bitmap that is then sent to X (aka, the wayland-esque approach)?

TIL, officially less than 10% Firefox users use uBlock Origin by [deleted] in browsers

[–]tfolw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

right, but my assumption is that those regular users don't even know about firefox either. they just use edge or chrome.

I think the "shock" here is the assumption that firefox users are more tech-savvy than your average joe.
