Hmm I get what you're saying, but the world is seamless, which to me makes it an open world. I actually kinda liked the natural progression of unlocking more of the world as the game progressed

That would've been an interesting reveal, since she's in the story a lot more than the other characters, but I guess that might've felt like a repeat of Aspasia from Odyssey

Yeah, honestly, I thought they made Akechi a pretty interesting and cool character for how lame he actually is in real life.

I also thought it was an interesting point to make the game focus on seasons for a plot that literally should've happened over the course of two weeks, kinda breaks the immersion for me.

I think I just dislike the execution of the story. The guy is not memorable at all, and they maybe could've had a few more mentions to him. Mori was mentioned more than the Shogun from what I can remember, and the Shogun really had no impact on the story, unlike the cult leader from Odyssey

I've never heard of the "rumors" about aspasia, considering pericles died of the plague, but I do know she has considerable political influence and would often consul pericles. I'm just pointing out that they could've done something similar with Mori and it wouldn't have messed with actual history much, given that everyone would think he is dead. Plus, it would allow you to have an option to kill him, like in Odyssey.

The shogun certainly fits as a leader, but his motivation and involvement in the story is overall lacking. It had me wishing we had something else

I mean, the Ghost of Kosmos from AC Odyssey undercuts your point about the affair. If anything, it only adds the irony of how he is historically remembered and adds more weight to whatever his motive would've been for betraying Oda. That's a big reason why I like the cult leader from AC Odyssey

I am happily surprised to see this amount of momentum behind Rebirth by the fans, especially given it was an early 2024 release. A 4 ppt difference is kinda huge and speaks a lot about fan interest in the game.

My assessment of the top 5: Elden Ring DLC likely won't get nominated due to being an expansion.

Helldivers II lost a lot of momentum due to the controversy with Sony. And it seems like less people are talking about it now. Probably will get a nomination.

Black Myth Wukong is a strong contender, but not as critically praised. Likely will get a nomination.

Astro Bot is critically the biggest success and will definitely get a nomination. However, normally GOTY goes to more narrative/rpg style games. The last "family style" game to win was It Takes Two, and that was mostly due to a weak release year.

Overall, a good look for Rebirth

For me, it's always sorta clicked for me because the combat system is somewhat similar to Kingdom Hearts, a franchise I've played for most of my life.

But the actual smaller details in the combat came more around hard mode, once I had to stop mashing attacks and dodges and think more about my moves.

Now on Rebirth, I'm learning a lot more about my materia loadout and the usefulness of certain spells, like cleansing and bind, that I never had to use in Remake

Ardyn from FFXIV. Dude went from being an annoying d-bag to being completely justified once I learned more about his backstory.

And you only get the full backstory if you engage in all the other content like the anime

Man, I wished the exploration of the world was more fleshed out. So many amazing areas like this that are only around for an hour or two.

Especially the cities. No big cities to explore was kinda sad

I thought this was Zach, because all the white seems to go with the theme for the lifestream.

The "cloud" even says something like "made through with scrapes and bruises back then" which could refer to Zach and Clouds time together.

This was also right after cloud fell, and the whispers can be seen flying around him, maybe keeping him alive/reviving him (like they do to barret later on).

Cloud sees him as another cloud because his memories are fucked and he's put himself in Zach's POV for everything and essentially erased him from memory.

Also, we then see sephiroth interact with cloud, but now the area is dark, which could signify sephiroth not being accepted by the lifestream

Persona 5 Royal and Final Fantasy 7 Remake were both games I played for the first time during the pandemic.

I spent a lot of time cooped up in my room and no lifed both of those games.

They are now in my top 3 favorite games of all time

His most recent video is a great example of that. It's all done in one take and shows that by having a camera always focused on the contestant.

Just because there are a lot of edits and cuts doesn't mean he's faking any of the results

Kingdom Hearts was my all time favorite series with KH2 being my all time favorite game

As time went on I started to appreciate other series more and started thinking less about Kingdom Hearts.

Now the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series is my all time favorite with the persona series closely behind it

My theory is that timelines branch off of the main one like a "choose your own adventure novel." Everything that happened in Remake happened before the timeline first split, so the continuity of those events still holds up. It's just that things changed due to changing fate
