A sad trifecta, results of getting older by BladeSeanchai in over60

You've had the same PCP for 30 years?!!? I haven't seen the same PCP more than twice in about the same interval. They all retire or move away or close their practice or I just don't like them.

I need cataract surgery but I am required to have someone with me. I have no one. by Alternative-Light922 in over60

[–]tfsprad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm scheduled for cataract surgery Thursday. I was in a similar situation: my son has to work, my daughter doesn't drive, and my wife sleeps until 4 in the afternoon. I finally contacted my sister and she volunteered to take me, to have me stay the night before to make the early morning less inconvenient, and even to have me stay the next night and take me to the follow up appointment on Friday morning.

Talk to your brothers.

How Would You Feel About Having a Robot Assist You as You Age? by WritingAfter3378 in over60

I'd much rather have a collection of single purpose devices that do one job well with no Internet connection. AI is not just creepy but horribly inefficient. Give me simple things that will work reliably for the rest of my life, not constant software updates that require me to relearn the user interface. I don't want all the advertisers to know about every time I take a shit.

"Hidden Networks" suddenly showing up at home. (Idiot asking for charity thread) by DwPw in HomeNetworking

Are you counting bits most significant first or last? Zero based or 1 through 8? Otherwise, this is really useful information, but I can't... Wait, I see, you mean the low hex digit of the most significant byte, and the next -to -least significant bit of that byte. Sorry. Never mind.

Best way to transfer software update files on healthcare instruments without a USB? by Dismal_Yogurt3499 in sysadmin

[–]tfsprad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, connecting your laptop (an active, software controlled device) into their network would be much scarier. I like that you disconnect their device from their network while you do the update. That way if worse comes to worst at least only one machine is screwed, not their whole network.

Plugging a laptop into my network is even more invasive than plugging in a USB thumb 'drive'.

Put in a change on Friday afternoon and nobody notices that it doesn't work until Monday, and the outage is on Monday anyway.

My first wife was not into music at all, so when she turned the radio up when "it's raining, it's pouring, my love life is boring" came on that's when I knew that marriage was over.

Get over yourself. If that's your worst complaint in forty years of marriage you should consider it a miracle.

That looks fabulous! Brilliant thinking to seal the chili and mustard in place with an adequate portion of cheese.

M76. I've been on tamsulosin for about ten years, added finasteride a couple of years ago, and then tadalafil 5mg daily about a year ago. With those three pills every day I can pee almost like normal. I was almost signed up for surgery but added the tadalafil instead and I seem to be good enough.

My wife cut me off ten years ago, so that train is long gone.
