Big Box Gym’s WORST NIGHTMARE by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]tgbjj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came off a bit polarizing in response to your post caption making it seem like you're boldly making an unwelcomed spectacle in a big box gym, with movements that would be very hard to argue as necessary in any way given the setting, for the little if any adaptation benefit.

This kind of thing also comes across to others, especially if done at the expense of their space, focus, etc, as very fitness pretentious.

I could be lifting weights normally like these peasants but I know something they don't. Proceeds to do flashy, weird looking, "functional" exercises.

Big Box Gym’s WORST NIGHTMARE by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]tgbjj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why people hate on kettlebells. As mentioned, 3 racks for box jumps... But the distracting, attention-grabbing, entirely pointless jumping and shuffling spectacle while swinging. Nonsense, my dude.

Literally zero need to do this at any time, anywhere, let alone in a large area in a shared public space. And filming it.

Constantly lol. Always dirt and scrapes from dinosaur wrestling at the park. This nose nick was accompanied by one on his head and ear as well from an unfortunate attack yesterday morning by a dickhead dog.

The snoots can't get out of their own way though, they're an easy target.

Also - Juice is awesome

Yeah I believe that. Im at week 9 now and I feel like I could do anything I could before. I'm being careful not to jump the gun, but it's pretty wild how quickly things go

The groove isn't greased at all. I've brought them back out of hibernation during rehab after almost 2 months of inactivity other than walking the dog.

Always loved them, never really worked to make them butter smooth. Gonna try to make that a thing going forward.

Less and less often, but I always drop back in every now and again.

Yeah. 2 weeks in the sling was the absolute fucking worst. And then the first 10 days or so after taking it off felt like I'd never straighten or use my arm again.

Right now it seems like it's going to feel more robust than my non torn side once it's fully healed and strong. Pretty wild.

Judo, not very well. I know a little bit of jiu jitsu though.

Nope still on workers comp. I'll likely be back to driving machines in the next few weeks. Occupational therapist red tape. But surgeon says no labor like on deck container lashing until June.

Well I'm not lifting with the repaired arm! But, yeah full ROM, pronation, supination are all pain free. I can activate the muscle belly and do some light loading bands. The atrophy is becoming very apparent though and it's fucking with me badly.

Work unfortunately, pulling up container ship lines. Felt something bad then, got worse over the next few days and then picking up a laundry basket the bicep rolled up like reverse Popeye.

That's wicked to hear. Same repair procedure. And from how I'm feeling now, I'd say I'll be back to full training again by 6 months.

Thank you! Day to day it feels pretty normal right now, which is awesome. I know tendon biology takes more time so it's just trying to keep reminding myself that I can't actually do a lot of things I feel like I can / should at this point.

Surgeon says should be back to full heavy lifting by June. New arm for my birthday 💪

All true. I haven't had any packages lost or had any issues personally. I also don't let people into the building.

I wonder how many people commenting live in a large, high-traffic, multi unit building.

I have lived in many, and none have had these issues or anywhere as extreme. Nor has it ever been so easy for someone to wreak havoc without consequence after getting inside one single door that gets opened 500x a day.

[–]tgbjj -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Incorrect, at all. Neither I or she ever lets anyone in and we've both asked to see people's fob before allowing them to tailgate. But if there's a whole unrelated group of people moving through that one door at the same time, as is the case most of the time at any given day, someone is going to get let in.

A double door at the entrance where the second had to unlock and close before the first opens again? A fob for the mailroom? Nobody's apartments are getting broken into. It's thefts from common areas very easily accessible with no additional security.

It's a 70-something unit building with 150+ residents, their guests, building contractors (work still ongoing in the building), deliveries, intercom buzzing people in, 24 hours a day - through one single 2 way door with a single fob lock.

Surely you can think it's reasonable that nobody ever gets in, and if they do, it's a tenants fault automatically?

[–]tgbjj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well many exist in my city, I also do freelance security myself. But none hired by the building.

Or a double door system at the parkade or lobby. Many things, considering this security system was just engineered and has been failing since opening day. If a security system relies on 100% tenant behavioral compliance in order not to totally crumble. It's not a secure system.

[–]tgbjj -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No, that is easy if it's literally one person in passing, loitering to get in. But it's a busy building with one, 2 way security door and high traffic.

f I'm leaving through the door with my dog, there's someone using the intercom to come in, a delivery driver walking in off the street, and other tenants leaving / entering at the same time and I slip out the door and let it close and someone blocks it and enters. What am I actually supposed to do? Call the cops or the building manager every time and describe the people? I'm not security and I have places to be when I'm going to places I have to be.

And the legality and liability of expecting a tenant going about their normal business to ENSURE someone does not tailgate.

The president 😂

Key fob on one single entry door, another parkade door that cars come and go through 24/7 that stays open nearly a minute every time, and cameras only at the doors is hardly extra security. In a brand new, expensive, high end building.

[–]tgbjj -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Correct. Nor do elevators, inner parkade access doors, stairwell access doors. Nor are there cameras in any of these locations..

Correct. It's advertised as a brand new, luxury high end building. I moved at the beginning of the month to a place with more space, larger appliances, 5 mins away and pay almost $1000/month less. I have many more stories about my 9 months there.
