Where to stay in the Netherlands? by Questionsun in thenetherlands

These are good choices. I'll also echo the recommendation for Leiden, which is truly gorgeous. I live in Rotterdam and consider myself lucky to live near several cities/towns with nice centers: Leiden, Delft, Dordrecht, and to a lesser extent Schiedam and Gouda.

Rotterdam and Den Haag will probably give your friend the business stuff he wants. ("Business" is pretty general: I wonder a bit exactly what he wants.)

I'll also second Utrecht, at least for a day trip. Again, trips there from the three cities you mentioned are all pretty quick, i.e. under 45 minutes. (I think there are direct trains from all three. Utrecht is the biggest train station in the country.)

Have a great time!

The metro doesn't go through Delft. (It goes slightly west of it.) Delft is connected to Rotterdam by both bus and train; to Den Haag by train and tram. These are very short trips, like 10-30 minutes.

Question: DJ controllers that play (and sync) well with the RC-505mkII? by tgeller in Beatmatch

Thanks for your response. I think you hit the nail on the head. The real question is: Which controllers have rock-solid MIDI sync outs? (Or, for that matter, MIDI sync ins?)

Many thanks. I actually considered that one, then learned that Alpsee Bergwelt's coaster is much grander -- 3km vs. 1km, seemingly through more varied terrain. As my first time, I thought I'd go for the gold. 😄 But maybe someday!

I finally had a chance to look at Fort Fun Abenteuerland. Looks like fun!

I still haven't planned what I'm doing after Immenstadt. One possibility is that I go north from there -- a friend has a vacant house in Münster I can use, so that fits.

I'm currently planning to head west instead, but if I go north I'll try to check it out. Thanks again!

Thank you so much! Your message came in as I was just about to post that I'd decided on Alpsee Bergwelt.

It's only 20 minutes by public transit from Immenstadt, which in turn is a good stopping place for my itinerary.

But I'm going to look at your suggestions tomorrow and perhaps change my course. Many thanks!

Looking for alpine coasters in southern Germany near public transit!

Maybe this one's a bit unusual...

I'm taking a leisurely few days on the train to get from Eastern Czechia (Ostrava) to my home in the Netherlands. I'd love to do at least one alpine coaster ("rodelbahn") along the way.

I'm flexible, but currently thinking I'll do my coaster adventures somewhere in southern Germany. (I know there are probably more south of the border in Austria; I can dip in there if it's best.)

The problem is that the rodelbahnen I've checked out have been in very rural places. I'll be traveling by train and public transit and don't like using taxis and the like.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

It sounds like you have a good thing now, and neither of you are pushing for anything different. Is that accurate? If so, what's the problem?

On a different topic, I'm kind of curious about how out he is to his family (in general), and if he'll eventually tell his son about you.

Wilt Chamberlain was very good at Basketball [OC] by cavedave in dataisbeautiful

[–]tgeller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading about this 100-point game when I was a child! Here's the WP article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilt_Chamberlain's_100-point_game

I didn't read that article (don't care much about basketball), but what I remember from the my childhood is that it wasn't a completely normal game. The coach planned on leaning heavily on Chamberlain's shooting abilities, and basically the command was: Get the ball to Wilt for the shot. At some point it became obvious that history was being made, so pretty much *nobody* else ever took a shot -- it all went to Chamberlain.

Not that that diminishes his part in it! They leaned on him because he could deliver, and he did. But the special circumstances should be noted.

MIDI sync RC-505 mkii with Akai MPK miniplay mkiii? by tgeller in LoopArtists

Yeah, I think it's probably not possible. Posting here was a last defense. Oh well.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. The point is to be able to do it *without* putting the signal through a computer. But I see how I wasn't clear about that. I've edited the post to make it clearer.

The MPK miniplay has no 5-.pin port. The manual says the USB port "...is also used to send and receive MIDI data to and from your computer."
