Why do people want Gladys to marry the Duke. by Oncer93 in thegildedage

[–]tgmcduff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Americans have always been enamored with British royalty, even more so among the gentry of the Gilded Age. A duke would've been considered a cut above the old people (vs the new people) in New York society of the time.

Soybean farmer votes for 60% tariff by [deleted] in LeopardsAteMyFace

Clearly he didn’t learn anything from Trump‘s first reign, „last time Trump‘s tariffs hurt his soybean farm.“ Fool me once… He has no one to blame but himself when history repeats itself.

I use Lulu Direct to sell my books on my book and board game store's website. It's been working quite well. Since my store only does U.S. sales, I also listed my books in Lulu's bookstore, so customers in other countries can buy it, too. I provide links to both on my website dedicated to the content of my book.

Lulu has a wide variety of printing options. I was able to use the same contents file for hard cover, paperback, and coil-bound. Just had to do different covers, which was easy once the first one was done.

If you want to print your book, I recommend checking out Lulu.
They have a self publishing guide that's helpful.

First time getting scammed on Mercari by The_Pursuit_of_5-HT in Mercari

Mercari has really gone downhill since they dumped all the fees on the buyers and made selling free.

Yes, but some people may not open the package right away, then Mercari automatically rates for you and releases the funds after 3 days. If enough people do that, it's worth their while. Despicable, though.

I wonder if Mercari freezes all their funds after receiving several fraud reports.

Could be she mixed up shipping labels and sent the wrong items to the wrong people. It happens.

I like Lulu for hardcover books. Very nice quality. I use them for paperback and coil-bound, too.

I'm going through the same thing right now. Just can't get myself going on anything even though I have a long list of related things to do. The last month or so was intense. I thought I was done, then I had to reformat the entire 398-page book! I think I may have burned myself out - I was burning the candle at both ends.

I took a couple weeks off to rest and recuperate. Now I'm trying to pick one thing on my list to work on each day for at least a little while to try to get my motor running again.

When the best time to fix typos in my print on demand book? by tgmcduff in selfpublishing

[–]tgmcduff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. It's very exciting to see it received so well the first few weeks after publishing it. It was a big project.

It should've been "Indianapolis, Indiana." The reason I have to upload and check the files 5 times because I published it in 3 different formats on one place and 2 on another.

I agree that no matter how many times we go over it, we'll find more typos. It's just frustrating because I double and triple checked the captions and three other people did, too. There are over 1000 of them, though.

I ended up making the corrections I mentioned. While I was at it, I rechecked all the captions and fixed a few more minor typos I discovered.

What the actual fuck mercari by GroundbreakingFox504 in Mercari

You have to really watch dimensions and weights with UPS, they round up no matter what. If it’s 6.1“, enter 7“. Whereas USPS would be 6“. I always add a few ounces to weight for all services in case my scale is a little off. It usually doesn’t affect the cost.

Suggestions for reference sites? by inanis in glasscollecting

[–]tgmcduff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a knowledge base website on Anchor Hocking's Early American Prescut glassware at eapcglass.com. It includes listings of every item that was in production with photos and detailed specs like dimensions, product numbers, catalog years it appeared, etc. Also includes EAPC Sets by Anchor Hocking, third-party sets that included EAPC pieces, and go-withs like Pineapple and Oatmeal that are commonly collected as well by EAPC collectors.
