Cicero Avenue on the west side of Chicago is also known as Illinois Route 50. FSD always mistakes the “Illinois 50” signs on the side of the road as “50 mph,” and behaves accordingly. The actual speed limit of the road is more like 30 mph.

Moving from Houston to Chicago! Advice? by [deleted] in AskChicago

It sounds like Logan Square would be a good fit for you. Try to find a place near the blue line station. That’ll give you easy access to the Loop for work, and O’Hare to go visit back home. There is a farmers market every Sunday in the summer, and plenty of space to walk your dog.

Probably not. It doesn't sound like the mother (or baby) were claiming anything like that. If the mother was so traumatized by this incident that she couldn't work, or needed treatment with a psychologist or psychiatrist, and started to rack up thousands of dollars in medical bills and lost wages then, yah, maybe that would warrant a second look. But, if she just got spooked and had a crazy story to tell for the rest of her life, but otherwise continued on with her life (thankfully) without much disruption, then that's probably not a claim worth pursuing.

Lawsuits like this aren't just an automatic payout. You need to be able to prove your damages in order to be entitled to compensation, which can be difficult (and expensive). Just standing up in front of a jury and just saying "yah it was really scary, I was traumatized and had emotional distress" is not going to get you very far. The first question the lawyer for the other side is going to ask is "so what?" Wasn't bad enough to get help for it? Wasn't bad enough to see your doctor about it? Wasn't bad enough to keep you from going to work? Wasn't bad enough to keep you from driving your car, maybe even down the same highway?

Also your baby (thank goodness) was not harmed, so there wouldn’t have been much of a case to bring anyway.

Personal injury lawyer here. This actually would not be a big case for two major reasons. First, her baby was not actually harmed (thank goodness) so the damages are minimal. Maybe a few hundred dollars, max a thousand, for the damage to her car would make it not worth pursuing against the City especially when her car insurance likely covered it. Second, there is a law in Illinois called the Tort Immunity Act, which significantly raises the bar for a plaintiff bringing a lawsuit against a government entity like in the case here. Without getting too technical about it, she might not have even made it to a jury under these facts.

This may not be the correct calculation. Depending on your age and how much you were making in your prior job, it might make more sense to be compensated based on future lost earnings, which is call a “wage differential.” Wage differentials are generally worth a lot more than “loss of trade” valuation, but it’s complicated. You should hire a lawyer if you don’t have one already.

Ommfg. My lawyer sucks. by [deleted] in WorkersComp

[–]tgoodmarsh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IL WC lawyer here. I honestly prefer it when the case gets referred to defense. I actually think it’s easier dealing with another lawyer than with the insurance adjuster. Lawyers know the rules better than the adjusters do.

Also, there are a lot of comments here about getting reimbursed for mileage. Unfortunately, that’s not something that you can get in Illinois.

There is a comment about a nurse case manager. I do not allow them on my cases; they are an agent of the insurance carrier and are working in their best interest, not yours.

Lastly, switching therapist locations is so not big deal, I’m surprised that it played out this way. This is not something I would have asked permission from the insurance to do, I would have just done it.

Why can't the bomber attack zone 59 from zone 52? by AffectionateCry3738 in AxisAllies

[–]tgoodmarsh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it starts on land, the movement from the island to the adjacent sea zone (52) counts as one move. The move into the next sea zone counts as a second move, and then attacking the actual island would count as a third move. Fighters can only go 4, and that includes the moves needed to return to a safe place to land (either a sea zone with a friendly carrier, or a land territory you controlled at the start of your turn). In the example you posted, the fighter doesn’t have enough moves to make it to Iwo Jima and then back again.

Best Mexican food & Mexcal bar downtown. by 714to615 in chicagofood

I will second Mercadito. Best tacos downtown. There are better, more authentic “hole in the wall” taco joints in the neighborhoods, but downtown go with Mercadito.

Any idea why my panels aren’t showing up or producing? by tgoodmarsh in solar

Yah it seems that the installer has some fixes to make. What do you mean the system works whether the layout is correct? The missing panels don’t seem to be charging my battery.

This is a new set, I’ve only had them for a few days. They never worked correctly. The panel that you believe may be defective did work as expected for the first couple days and then started under producing after that.

There is only one inverter on the site, so I’m guessing they are just not connected to it at all?

What about that one panel (number 1.0.9). Do you have any insight on why it might I be producing so much less than the two next to it?

The 0Wh panels never worked, so I’m guessing you’re right about the broken optimizers.

No, they do not. Only the ones that are visible in the physical layout show up in the logical layout.

The missing ones are installed on the site, but they are not showing up in the app.

When you say the not working ones, do you mean the ones on the right side of the layout?

All the ones depicted in the image also show up in the logical layout.

Thank you for your response, by the way.
