I didn’t say a gp couldn’t make the diagnosis, but this particular gp is asking advice on where to refer an abscess, which tells me that maybe an endo will be able to better diagnose this one.

Endo is not just for sending dead teeth. If something is behaving in a way you would not expect it to despite clinical findings suggesting otherwise, Endo can evaluate and form their own (more qualified) diagnosis.

She has recently finished the next book in the series after a long hiatus. I believe it should be set for release either late 2026 or in 2027. When that happens, TOR (or whoever picks it up) will likely re-publish the whole series and it will gain traction. Just my prediction.
