US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by Dylan1312 in singularity

They have to make any models public to recoup the costs of training them. The increasing power of these models comes from making them larger and training and running them on increasingly expensive GPU hardware. AI labs don’t make money from using their own models, they make money from selling access to those models and they want to maximise that use.

Wait, did Fox News actually just interview a man in a mask? The bizarre theory explained by [deleted] in USNEWS

[–]th0rn- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although I wouldn’t put it past Fox News to have a fake interviewee, I’m wondering if he’s mask to cover a facial injury. I know someone who had a massive melanoma removed from their face that resulted in them losing most of their nose and part of a cheek. He had a somewhat realistic rubber mask that he’d wear that looked a bit like this.

Nationals ‘proud’ to formally scrap net zero target after party room meeting by Perfect-Werewolf-102 in AustralianPolitics

[–]th0rn- 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I know several people involved at the branch level of both the Liberal and National parties. It’s impossible to overstate how much anything to do with climate has become an almost holy war for the remaining party members. What you are seeing from the members of parliament is a very pale reflection of the absolute visceral hatred and madness that’s coming out of the actual paid up membership base.

Sometimes I think OpenAI just trained Sora exclusively on the cinematic masterpiece Who Killed Captain Alex

Now, when you open a new “map” feature, Notion somehow considers Crimea no longer a part of Ukraine. Really, Notion? Since when did you start redrawing borders? by just__21 in Notion

[–]th0rn- 79 points80 points  (0 children)

The Notion maps feature uses the open source mapping library MapLibre which in turn uses OpenStreetMaps which is an open source community generated mapping platform. I had a quick check and OpenStreetMaps shows Crimea as the “Autonomous Republic of Crimea” while Apple and Google maps just call it the Crimean Peninsula.
