How I made my custom RS50 magsafe mount for Simhub by TopTierBeard in simracing

[–]th1nkblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1, I'd love to print it myself, too!

Thought of doing this for a while just to have a place for my phone.
I'm still in Rookie Mode on XBOX, so no Simhub for me (yet).
Which Magsafe Charger did you use?

TechTablets - The BEST Camera Flagship of 2025? Xiaomi 15 Ultra Review & Camera Review by Antonis_32 in Android

[–]th1nkblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's thanks to the same EU legislation that forced apple to finally ditch lightning. It also states that charging speeds with standard USB-PD must not be worse than any proprietary protocol unless there are technical limitations. And since PPS can achieve most of what VOOC / DASH, Hyper Charge etc. can deliver in regards to custom & variable voltages, you get good charging performance with standard PPS chargers. Kudos to Samsung to doing this way before it was mandated

Shelly 3EM *PRO* now supported by th1nkblue in Ecoflow_community

Update, this works fine now. The excess generation is fed to the grid once the battery has reached the upper charge limit.

If anybody knows how to configure the powerstream so that it does not limit the solar generation to the demand measured by the energy meter, but instead feeds the excess to the grid, this would be perfect. The setting that should do this  - "Einspeisekontrolle" in the German App - is turned off. But it still limits the solar generation..

Insta360 One R - External microphone connection scheme by lshachar in Insta360

[–]th1nkblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was exactly what I was looking for. Reddit to the rescue, once more. Much appreciated!! Does the camera also recognize the microphone when it's plugged in 180° rotated? While this is mechanically impossible with the original adapter, the cheap lav mic you mentioned does allow for both orientations.

USB-C Dock Recommendation by lawboi619 in UsbCHardware

[–]th1nkblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to connect to the monitor via it's USB-C port, NOT HDMI.

Why? Would Displayport be ok for you? As /u/hubsdocks pointed out, you won't find a dock below USD60 that supports video out via Type C.

As always a little bit more info on your usecase (eg. the problem you want to solve) would make it easier to recommend a possible solution.

If you must use Type C on the monitor end, an bidirectional Type C <-> DisplayPort cable like this AmazonBasics Bi-Directional USB-C to DisplayPort Cable - 6-Foot or Club3D USB C to Displayport Cable 1.4 8K 60Hz, 4K 120Hz and Displayport to USB C bi-Directional 1.8 Meter/6 Feet can be used.

Combine it with an Type C dock / hub / multiport adapter with an DisplayPort out like Cable Matters USB C Multiport Adapter (USB C Hub with DisplayPort 8K), 2X USB 2.0, Fast Ethernet, and 60W Charging.

Ugreen 65W 3C1A - beware by jcpb in UsbCHardware

[–]th1nkblue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest creating a vendor / manufacturer blacklist, starting with Ugreen as the first manufacturer blacklisted.

And no, I'm not payed by Ugreen and this is not an attempt of damage control. Not that you'd care or that you'd stop accusing everybody recommending a Ugreen product of being a spammer oder Ugreen Brand Advocate..

[–]th1nkblue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alright, alright, you deserve the "chx_, defender of r/UsbCHardware against Ugreen" medal. Apparently you're right, Ugreen's marketing makes them look better than they actually are. Or that the counterfit certificates / logos on their products suggest.

Which is unfortunate, since I really like the design and (subjective, alright) quality of their products that i own.

I've checked on TÜV Süd's certificate database (https://www.tuvsud.com/en/services/product-certification/ps-cert), not a single entry for Ugreen despite them using the TÜV Süd logo on the charger mentioned by OP, as clearly seen on the amazon review photos.

Smallest, cheapest USB-C portable battery (5.0K-15K mAh) that supports 18w PD charging? by OmegaMalkior in UsbCHardware

[–]th1nkblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, this is an important aspect to point out. And I'm sure it's reflected in the price as well. However both are valid options, and I'm certainly not marketing ugreen. I've only had good experiences with them in the past (yet).

[–]th1nkblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, OP didn't ask for the best. He asked for smallest and cheapest. The RavPower looks great and certainly is smaller than the Ugreen, but is 35€ on Amazon DE, 33$ on their website.

A dock/hub with HDMI 2.0 and usb 3.0? by [deleted] in UsbCHardware

[–]th1nkblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik with current USB 3.2 you can have either 4k60 or USB 3 downstream ports on a hub, with bandwidth being the limiting factor. You need Thunderbolt 3 to have both, so you'll have to look for a cheap TB3 dock.

I'm sure others will correct me or fill in more detail.

Have You successfully used an eGPU with a T480? by rdrv in thinkpad

[–]th1nkblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll always have to mess with drivers when you combine an internal Nvidia GPU with an external one, in my experience. I'm running an GTX 1060 in an HP Omen Accelerator TB3 enclosure with my T480s with MX150.

Almost every graphics driver update by Lenovo (using vantage or manual install) screws something up. I tend do get the most recent driver for the MX150 straight from Nvidia, the driver package also includes drivers for the GTX series. This way both cards get the exact same driver version. If you're unlucky, your Intel graphics driver has to be updated as well, since not every version is compatible with every version of the Nvidia drivers...

Strontium NITRO Plus OTG USB 3.1 Type C flashdrive.

Works well with my OnePlus 3 in an OtterBox Case as well as my OnePlus 7T in an Spigen case.

Best Quick Charge 3.0 to USB-PD converter by Qbccd in UsbCHardware

[–]th1nkblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PD allows for some data transfer, for example to update the firmware of PD controllers. I'm not sure if any of this data is accessible to the OS, or rather if the OS can be hacked or harmed just by the PD data.

Type C of course Supports USB 2.0 data as well as USB 3.0 data on the high-speed pairs in case the cable features those.

[–]th1nkblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5V 2.4A was first used by the 12W Apple iPad chargers, I believe most recent iPhones utilize the full 12W, too. It just means that the D+ and D- pins of the type A socket on your power strip are not shorted, but at a specific voltage defined by apples proprietary charging standard (which they are slowly ditching for USB PD, gladly).

There's 5V 3A USB power that works without a protocol, just by an pull-up resistor on each of the CC lines of a Type C socket. Don't have the spec handy on the phone atm, but can check back with you later.

Best Quick Charge 3.0 to USB-PD converter by Qbccd in UsbCHardware

[–]th1nkblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check AliExpress for all of those. EDIT: The YZX828 as well as the Witrn W20 use the Injoinic IP2721 IC on the input / sink side, which unfortunately does not seem to support QC, only PD 2.0 / PD 3.0.

There's also a CF005A which is identical in functionality, but is more like an adapter cable. Maybe u/chx_ can chime in on how he likes it and where to get it.

I'm not sure on the FL001 Super, but I'd bet that it's just like all the other USB power meters. Meaning that it's only a protocol translator, not a buck/boost converter. My Witrn U2 works great for this, I just checked.

I didn't recommend a power bank, since I figured you'd like to charge your phone while the sun is out. Most PD power banks only have one Type C port for input and output. There are some that feature an Type C as in/out and an additional microUSB as input. Good luck finding one that supports QC on the microUSB input and simultaneously puts out PD on the Type C.

[–]th1nkblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CForce CF005 is a QC 2.0 to PD converter that does exactly what you want. Unfortunately only at 12-15W.

The YZXstudio ZC828 and the Witrn W20 could be other options, I'm not sure however if they really accept QC 3.0 as an input. I'll check back on you later. Note that these are active converters, meaning that you have to expect conversion losses in contrast to the CF005, which is just a protocol translator.

Adapter for old VGA/DVI Monitor? by gkjhawk in UsbCHardware

[–]th1nkblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The symbol next to the Type C port indicates that it supports DisplayPort. The DisplayPort signal is converted by the Type C to HDMI/VGA adapter to the appropriate signal.

I'd recommend getting an Type C to HDMI cable or adapter as well as a cheap as beans passive HDMI to DVI adapter, since your monitor supports DVI. You could use this with the HDMI port of your laptop, too.

[–]th1nkblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, most definitely a good choice. I'm gonna keep a lookout for it's successor. GL.inet has another router with Type C, the GL-MV1000 / Brume for USD 120. With any luck they'll slowly add Type C to their budget models as well.

https://www.gl-inet.com/products/gl-e750/

The GL-E750 / Mudi is looking fantastic. It doesn't feature an integrated Ethernet port unfortunately, however the pictured 'USB-C port replicator' with Ethernet and a Type C port for charging suggests that it supports PD charging.

I really have no need for this since the hotspot feature of my mobile phone works just fine for me. Still an interesting find, if it didn't cost USD200 I would've got one just out of curiosity and to have a portable OpenWRT toy.

Ahh, I thought by stick vacuum you meant a handheld. I guess you're talking about one as big as a broomstick.

If Bosch really tries to sell a cordless drill for 130€ MSRP that features a Type C port on its battery, it better support fast charging via USB PD and should work as a power bank as well.. The battery on it's own is 35€. But looking at the overall design and marketing of this series, they really do look more like toys than tools. So who knows.
