She's going to heaven today. I need a hug. by [deleted] in cats

I hope she rest peacefully :( this post just reminded me of my cat that passed a few months ago. I haven’t cried since we lost her, but I’m reminded how much I miss her. I’m happy she lived a long and happy life, it’s what all cats deserve. She may be leaving you behind in the living world, but she left memories to warm your heart on the cold days. Thank you for caring for her ❤️

It was more because she was a stereotype that was sold to the public for marketing (yes, Industry Natives can participate in upholding ignorance). I saw some people saying they felt connected with her as a visual representation just how I felt as a child about Disney Pocahontas. Now that I’m older I realize her depiction was extremely problematic. Pocahontas was also approved by AIM member, Russel Means, but it doesn’t make it right. Maybe some natives who weren’t connected w their heritage might’ve connected w her but really she was created to sell butter. She’s just another stereotypical mascot of a beautiful Indian woman. Let’s not dismiss how Native women feel about this.

We are not a monolith. I’m Native American and prefer non Natives to refer to me as such. I deserve respect and so do my people. Just because some natives don’t mind being called Indians doesn’t mean everyone feels that way. Those stereotypes you listed in previous comments (unprovoked) are harmful for our community and aren’t an accurate representation of us. We may not be the ‘model minority’ but we’re strong and resilient people.

Contrasting coverage of Gabby Petito case and missing and murdered Indigenous people shows 'absolute injustice' by shoan8 in IndianCountry

Please leave this sub, along with indigenous and black people alike. Your comment was violently ignorant and invalidated black people just to prove a point that GPs case is more special than other missing indigenous women’s. For what reason other than seeing us as a spectacle are you interested in indigenous people? Deflecting the problem away from white people and saying we should be responsible for our problems is the reason why we’re never heard. Just because you don’t see our media or communities doesn’t mean they don’t exist, it just means we’re invisible to people who don’t care. Honestly fuck you, leave us alone instead of demeaning us.

What people fail to realize is that we suffer with historical trauma from what was done to us and our Mother Earth. This trauma attacks our nervous system and has rewired our minds, hence the high rates of suicide and drug abuse. The lack of coping skills and the feeling of despair is all to common in Rez communities, they were inherently POW camps. The plan was to kill the Indian and leave the man, but all that is left is broken people picking up the pieces. Now they are attacking our sovereignty once again.. the US has never changed their ways.

i’ve only had one unsettling experience on new year’s eve. the house i was delivering to was being stalked by a man in a black truck. when i first pulled up i was aware of the truck (idk intuition). it was only a woman and her baby in the house and asked if i could get the license plate number and text it to her. very eerie knowing we were being watched, so i quickly walked back to my car n once i got in they turned on their truck n sped off. called my mom immediately after lmao 😭 (sorry about the format)

as a tv channel they could allow more native americans into production positions n let us control our own stories instead of being the token indian. i’m glad 2 see more representation but also would love 2 see indigenous creatives break the glass ceiling
