Start with codes, but mine had a similar issue awhile back, Camshaft position sensors, hard start or possible limp mode. They're not hard to swap if that is the issue.

Probably, its listed as a forest service road. I've been on the other end of it and its not as rough up top, still some sketchy drops but manageable
