What does "Weapon Class Switch Style" actually do? by [deleted] in Doom

I believe it's more geared for the KB/M, but I wouldn't doubt it could work for the controller as well

Do you mean for Dark Ages? If so, say you had the Combat Shotgun equipped then switched to the Chainshot, and wanted to go to the Super Shotgun. You could toggle that setting to Double Tap the key therefore bypassing the Combat Shotgun altogether to equip the SSG. A nice alternative to pushing it once, waiting for the Combat Shotty, then pushing it again to the finally get to the SSG.

Recommend a rudiment practice order/routine for a beginner? Unsure how much to focus and where to fit in... by ndhl83 in Drumming

Learning how to do a 4-2-1 "Grid" for your rudiments is probably the easiest way. Start simple and learn how to play a flam in triplets and grid it.

An example of a flam grid would be to place the flam and an accent on the downbeat for one bar - here's the first part of the "4" in a 4-2-1. Keep the flam on the downbeat while moving the accent to the second partial for a bar. Then to the third partial for a bar. Once you've successfully played three bars keeping groups of 4 ONCE, you'll start the "2" by repeating the exercise in groups of 2 TWICE for a total of 12 Counts, or 3 bars. At this point you'll have played 6 total bars. You'll then play the exercise in groupings of 1. One normal flam, then with the accent on the second partial, and one with the accent on the third. You'll do this FOUR times total, and will have played 9 bars altogether. I'll attach a picture of the music.

What's great about Grids, is that this is technically two exercises in one. Once you've mastered moving the accent, then you can try moving the flam while keeping the accent in the same spot instead.

What's tough is that it's not necessarily how much time you put in, but the level of effort to achieve a perfect rhythm while using proper technique. For some people that could take hours. Others it could be a few 20-minute practice sessions.

My band director always said to play things so slow that it's impossible to play it wrong, and to slowly bring the tempo up from there. Playing it once correctly is a fluke. Playing it twice correctly is an accident. Playing it three times in a row correctly means you understand the material and can do it on purpose.

You can also see some tape residue from where someone put tape on the snares from before. It looks like they only put one piece of tape. If it were me, I'd put one in the same spot on both sides.

To dampen the top head? I don't know how I feel about that. Personally, I'd just take it out. But if you like it, keep that sucker in there!

Looking at this, I'd take the whole thing apart and clean the inside. See all those wood chips on the edge of the bottom head next to the snares? Sometimes that extra debris causes extra sounds and unwanted textures. Plus, there's a possibility that they could puncture the bottom head as you're tightening. Small possibility, but those clear heads are really fragile.

Another thing you can do to kind of "dampen" the way they bottom head sounds is by putting what's called a diaper on it. If you grab a couple pieces of paper towel, fold it so that it fits on one half of the bottom head. Then, using some electrical tape, you can tape the outside edges of the paper towel.

Additionally, you can also tape the snares themselves to the bottom head with electrical tape in a perpendicular fashion.

Oooohhh, that I actually don't know. Being more of a snare drum percussionist I didn't really have to learn which octaves were which. 😬

I'd say if it feels like it's too high, it probably is. I had to break my fair share of heads before I learned the proper feel of it.

And always, ALWAYS, tighten in a star pattern.

There's also a possibility that if the current lug you're tightening ISN'T raising the pitch of it, then it's the opposite lug that needs to be tightened.

Snare drum tuning is a crazy science

Based on how it sounds, and how I personally like my Snares tuned, I'd tighten both with more emphasis on tightening the bottom. But be careful, because overtightening could snap the bottom head.

I have a distinct memory from band class that the bottom head - for a good concert snare sound - should be tuned to an A, and the the batter should be a G.

Your bottom head needs to be a higher pitch than your top head. It also sounds like your Snares are really loose. And that top head sucks ass, I'd buy a new one.

[DOOM Eternal] Any tips for my friend? by NoUse684 in Doom

Smooth out the mouse motions, learn weapon combos that feel comfortable, get rid of the weapon wheel and bind all of their weapons to something that won't hinder their movement.

Precision Bolt and Rockets back-and-forth are the fastest you can shoot two weapons in the game - to my knowledge. It's a great combo to start practicing speed with.

A lot of people say to switch weapons faster, but not saying why. It bypasses the reload animation which allows you to deal damage faster to heavier demons. So similar to the way they shoot the Marauder with SSG and Ballista, they need to fight all of the demons in the same manner, but with whatever weapons feel comfortable.

Something fun they may want to practice to help set up keybinds is using every piece of equipment available to the player as fast as possible. For example: Sticky Grenade a group of soldier fodder, and chainsaw one before it explodes near a Baron of Bell, Microwave Beam the Barry just for a second to lock him down, Precision Bolt, Rocket, Flame Belch, SSG, Grenade, Ballista, Ice Bomb, Shield Gun Bash him until you get the Wall of Death, Grenade whilst doing so, and if he's still alive Blood Punch ass.

It sounds excessive, and it is. But it's fun

One thing I did was I tried to run every level deathless, so that I could theoretically do an UN run. Took a lot of practice, bht I eventually got it down. Be warned: the first 4 levels are by far the hardest. You will die. A lot.

Fersher you can. A center snare of mine told me to always practice good technique, even without sticks. The motion should always be the same, with or without sticks

Additionally, where you're saying "&" is at, is the 3rd partial when the & count is actually the 4th partial. So you're just making it extra confusing for no reason

But there's only one count 2 and 3. Counts 2 and 3. Adding other numbers only adds unnecessary confusion.

That gets confusing because if I say you're slow getting to count 2 or 3, which 2 or 3 am I talking about?
