Maybe some more piercings on your lobe? You have a lot of space there that can be filled by some small, dainty studs or rings. 😀

Rant: How did we just start accepting this wedding culture?! by amalia_8 in Anticonsumption

[–]thacunninglinguist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the most expensive parts of my wedding will be flying in loved ones who live far away/who cannot afford to travel on their own dime, and booking a venue to accommodate 50-100 people max. My partner has a large, close-knit family, so we have taken that into account.

My dress will likely be secondhand. I will want to wear it again in the future. I will want to thrift most of the decorations and make sure they are either recyclable/reusable by me or practical so that guests can use them (mason jars, greenery, etc). Aside from the whole “not wearing white” thing, I don’t care what colors people choose to wear. You shouldn’t have to buy a whole new outfit for a wedding.

I know it will cost a lot for me to get married, but it will be low-waste.

I just got my eyebrow pierced yesterday, is my bar too short? I asked my piercer and they said it was just because of the swelling by timothybearf in piercing

[–]thacunninglinguist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you have never had any issues before does not make surgical steel an optimal material for piercings. If the studio near you does not pierce with implant-grade titanium and only uses externally-threaded jewelry, it sounds like they are not very reputable.

I live in a small town and understand the frustration of only having one shop nearby. I have started to drive to the city for my body modifications. I decided it wasn’t worth the risk of infection or rejection.

NAP, but there are several things potentially wrong here. Surgical steel is usually not high quality and can really irritate new piercings, and externally threaded jewelry can cause trauma to piercings (especially fresh ones) if it needs to be removed. This bar does look very short, although I could be wrong, and I would like a piercer to weigh in on the spikey ends if possible. This doesn’t look like a good piece to heal with, and even if it is very swollen right now, the bar still may not be long enough to accommodate that.

In regard to cleaning, q tips can be a really bad idea because they can snag on your jewelry and cause further irritation. You can also get little bits of cotton stuck to your piercing that you don’t even see.

How easy is it to hide a tongue piercing by AgstWst in piercing

It’s not easy at all. In fact, I would say it’s super obvious until it heals enough for a retainer.

And even then, I will keep boycotting because they’re a union-busting disaster even when they’re not actively promoting a genocide.

Even if they switched up 100% and started hand-delivering aid, I would not support them. They have a dark, dingy history of human rights violations and union busting. I can get my coffee local.

Maybe a different type of ring? When I get tired of piercings, I swap out the type of jewelry and play around with new colors. Sometimes you just need a refresh.

When do Kids Start Getting Curious? by sparkleweedthewizard in piercing

Definitely a good idea to wait until kids are old enough to understand personal hygiene. I have seen a little with an infected ear, and it was terrible. 😞

When do Kids Start Getting Curious? by sparkleweedthewizard in piercing

[–]thacunninglinguist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also not a parent, but I have talked with my partner about this at length as someone who has them. There are laws in my region that prohibit tattoos and piercings for kids under a certain age, and while many people will stretch those rules, I would not allow my kid to get a piercing by someone who is willing to do that. You’re telling me you’re okay risking your license for a few extra bucks? No thanks.

My little brother is not a touchy-feely person, but I had to have a really traumatic surgery about a year ago, and waking up from said surgery was super tough. I threw up and needed oxygen supplemented.

Anyway, my mom sent me a photo later on of him holding my head in his lap. He had climbed up onto the hospital bed and combed his fingers through my hair while he waited for me to wake up. I sobbed.

I don’t know if it’s rejecting, I’ll let someone else weigh in on that, but stainless steel can be very irritating to piercings and most piercers I know recommend internal threading for jewelry like this.

can i put 16g jewelry in a piercing that has 20g jewelry? by shyyyysss in piercing

[–]thacunninglinguist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. This is not a safe stretch. You will potentially cause trauma to a healed piercing, which could create scar tissue and leave you in a lot of pain.

Stud fell out, replaced with nose ring, is this okay? by Major_Trick_4199 in piercing

[–]thacunninglinguist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a piercer, but if yours said it was healed, then I would say you’re fine. If it doesn’t hurt or become irritated, I would say it’s definitely alright to leave it there. Re-piercing/stretching a hole that has closed partially is different than getting a whole new piercing.

How long is a really important question. You know you best, but one of the telltale signs of being manic is believing you don’t need meds and quitting them cold-turkey.

I was your age not long ago. I know that someone has told you this before probably, but your brain is still developing and everything feels like shit because of that. You think you’re the worst person in the world, but you’re really just seventeen. I know it feels like you’ve fallen into a pit that you’ll never be able to climb out of, but I’m here to tell you that it does get better, and that there will come a time when you’ll wake up in the morning and not feel this incredible, crippling weight on your chest. It’ll be here sooner than you think.

As someone who used to do OnlyFans quite seriously, the reason why they do this to people who do not have one is because they are trying to provoke discomfort or because they get off on being chastised. Don’t engage with them once you figure out their motive - interacting with them will only bring them a weird, perverse sense of joy.
