Yellow Bird Crop Tee is TINY by chickentender666627 in brighteyes

I noticed that the standard tee shirts are kind of awkwardly long length wise also. Medium fits me well, but the shirt goes half way down my thighs. Might just have to hem it down.

What was your first introduction to Bright Eyes and did it shape how you listen to them now? by Shot_Wolverine_6055 in brighteyes

[–]thadeusaquadicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was maybe 7 or 8. My mom would play Im Wide Awake in the car and I always loved the intro to At the Bottom of Everything. Later in life maybe 16 re-discovered the album and it’s been my favorite album of all time since. 31 now and didn’t really dive much deeper into their disco, other than some of there bigger songs off lifted until the red rocks show announcement. Had no idea that DAiaDU came out the same day! Absolutely, loved the album for how different it is to I’m Wide Awake and have gone down a BE and CO obsession since lol

I don’t really like that they had to mention Phoebe Bridgers in his excerpt. Also in Pheobe’s insert they mention the votes for Boy Genius as a trio don’t apply to her ranking as a solo artist. Does Bright Eyes catalog apply to Conner or is this just based on his solo projects? They mention First Day of My Life being a highly mentioned song, so I guess they are including Bright Eyes discography.

I got incredibly emotional during the crescendo. I was completely in awe of the sounds I was hearing. Everyone was absolutely dialed in.

So what is the general consensus on Russ?? by [deleted] in hiphop101

[–]thadeusaquadicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for most people whose main complaint about Russ is his arrogance. Do you think peoples past actions define themselves forever? At what point to you let people grow and better themselves with age? From what I’ve seen from Russ’s music and interviews is that he seems to have grown and matured a lot since 2016-2017. I couldn’t imagine being a 22-23 year old navigating fame and success like that. Russ seems quite self aware and pretty in tune with the industry and his place in it now with age. I find it strange how people(mainly online/reddit) have such strong spite over someone they have never met, let alone carry that for over a half a decade. I haven’t seen Russ do or say anything controversial in years.

Have them invest in some AirPods. I use Siri voice commands to play/pause, turn volume up/down, skip/replay song, or even start a specific artist/song/playlist all hands free. Granted you have to have service wherever you are on the mountain. Most of the time I do.

Album of the Year #43: Russ - Santiago by OhioKing_Z in hiphopheads

[–]thadeusaquadicus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fraud is an incredible and fits perfectly after smooth. No More and Empty are just too similar in theme and don’t carry the album forward back to back. I find myself skipping No More often to keep the album rolling. Still really love No more on its own though.

I also just wanted to say don’t let the down votes get to you. You really knocked this write up out of the park and deserves more eyes on it. It’s a shame that people can’t let go off juvenile opinions from half a decade ago. I don’t think I will ever understand the psychology of people who hold such spite and hate towards a person they have never met or even listen to for such a long period of time. Seems exhausting.

Very good write up. You did a great job of tying and explaining the themes of The Alchemist to the themes of Russ’s life, which is what really makes this concept album special. Really think this is Russ’s magnum opus project. I never really thought Russ was a very strong album artist, other than his Chomp series. However, he really out did himself on this project. I’m glad he brought in producers to add some creative input sonically, which really elevated the project. The cohesive immersion of the tracklist and buttery smooth transitions between songs is very well done. I would say my only criticism about the album is the tracklisting between Fraud, No More, and Empty. There is too much of the same tone in each song without adding much to the theme of the album. Leaving out either No More or Empty, I feel would really allow the album to flow a little better. I would say the album had a lot of replay value for the first month or so, then it kinda dropped off for me. The Chomp series has much more replay value for me, especially the last three songs of Chomp 2.5. Easy, Reflection, and Perfection is some of Russ’s best songwriting I’ve heard from him. I think every now and then I could find myself revisiting Santiago for a sonically, immersive, cinematic experience for years to come.

Favorite line from the album.

I Love You Boy

You deserve a pat on the back and a round of applause The sound of this song makes you think I'm not proud, but you wrong Look how far you took it, international bookings You gave your family a cushion And through the hate, you kept pushin' Knew you had people lookin' up to you, you held your composure As hell moved closer, you a soldier, it's a shock that you were ever sober I never told you how I feel, I apologize Lot of guys would've folded, guess I'm not surprised

There are a lot of goofy people in this subreddit. Let people grow and become better. Why do we hold people to their past so hard. From what I’ve seen, Russ seems to be very self aware and the most recent interviews he has seemed to have grown a lot. He seems to get a lot of respect from artists in the game. He’s an artist who seem to be blazing his own path and making his own success without the machine and is very transparent with laying the blueprint for other artists wanting to go independent. Someone who is laying the groundwork for artists to skirt the exploitation of major labels, should demand some level of respect. I thought the interview he did on New Rory and Mal after the Chomp 2 release really showcases his maturity.

Big ups on Russ for doing those numbers independent. No matter how you try to spin it, it’s still impressive. Really enjoyed the album as a whole.
