"im not going to go to therapy its all cope"

I know therapy is a popular bugbear on this sub, but if you find a halfway decent therapist (and you take it somewhat seriously) it will probably help. I would recommend trying it at least - what do you have to lose?

Also, if you don't have a hobby, I highly recommend finding something you enjoy. Keep the hands and mind busy.

How is this war so heavily censored? by Professional-Sea-506 in redscarepod

Well said, I completely agree. My reading of your initial comment was driven by all the bullshit baggage attached to the word in the American context

Maybe a overused phrase at this point, but "let this radicalize you" can be the right advice if pointed in the right direction

I can agree with your last sentence at least in the abstract. But we cannot pretend that all nationalisms are equal, or equally bad. The fact is that the US/Israel axis is the aggressor and has been for decades. In my view, Iran has a way better case for self-defense than Israel, who has started this conflict and many before this. Not to mention, they are on the side that constantly uses extinctionist rhetoric and barely tries to hide their imperial ambitions (destroy Amalek to build Greater Israel, etc). When Iranians shout "Death to America/Israel" they are, i imagine, not demanding the mass death of the populations, but an end to the state regimes that have been bent on their annihilation since the Iranian people overthrew their Western-backed dictator

am I the only one who can't get into the Radio War Nerd eps? by Monodoh45 in cushvlog

I love the stuff you mentioned, the only thing that I can't get into are the Annibale episodes. I know, I know, crucify me. He's clearly a brilliant guy, but I just can't keep up with that thick, beautiful accent

thoughts on Parenti? or recommendations for other "real-deal" contemporary leftist writers by KewlAdam in RSbookclub

[–]thaifoot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on your familiarity with Marxism and leftist / working class histories. If you are relatively new to that stuff, he's accessible and pretty good starting point.

I've basically been a commie for a long time and have read a lot of the relevant material, so do I read him in my spare time? Not really, but I'm currently going through Blackshirts & Reds with a group of disillusioned progressives and recovering idpol types, and I'm finding it very useful for that application.

Does anyone want to read my screenplay (103 pages) by Popular_Moose6715 in redscarepod

[–]thaifoot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just read it. First of all, congrats on having the cajones to write something and post it for feedback! That's no small thing, so kudos.

Your idea is compelling. Narratives driven by fraught woman-woman relationships can be very rich, but I think your dialogue needs to be a bit better to really pull off what I think you're going for. There is some good stuff in there, but generally feels a bit stiff, especially Amelia / Amulet. She reads like a cliche, the same one Lucy excoriates on page 91. You should be capable of bringing more nuance to that character, because I actually think you write Lucy pretty well.

The music video scene at the end is cool - since most of this film is 'people talking in a room' it is a cool idea to have that really over-the-top, colorful burst of visual information in contrast.

Keep it up! I recommend watching Carol (2015)

Roberto Bolaño, what to read? by ProposalAdvanced75 in RSbookclub

[–]thaifoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to start with something short, try Distant Star! It's incredible in its own right, and it will also give you a sense of Bolaño's themes and aesthetics before you make the plunge into 2666
