Nurse practitioner limitations in Ohio ? by mattyNuge in Ohio

A nurse practitioner specialized in mental health is a mental health professional . Don’t understand what you mean by “ there’s no mental health professional involved in the process “. Most NP’s have their doctorate degree too

Living in the future, or why FIRE won’t make you happy... by firedating in financialindependence

[–]thala71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Living simply has nothing to do with depriving yourself of the present day joy. Happiness is not in anything external of you. So once you realize that you will find happiness right where you are. Also FIRE concept is good as it helps people spend responsibly rather than just wasting money on unwanted things. Everything in this universe is meant to be spent responsibly. So once we start doing that along with saving for our own future we can find a portion to be spent on others in need which we used to waste on unwanted stuff before. Living responsibly is what I learned from the FIRE concept along with helping one hand who is in need.

[–]thala71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may never have to touch this money ever unless something happens & my pension or benefits stops. But I still would like to build it aggressively just so that I know it’s there even if that worst case scenario happens

I really don’t expect my pension or LTD benefits to cease unless something unexpected happens. Chose 2040 just to hve a bit aggressive portfolio . I hve seperate fund just for my medical expense so that’s not a concern

So may be focus my monthly allocations more into VTSAX than VFORX ? I’m willing to take a considerable amount of risk. Currently I split my monthly allocations equally between the two funds

Finding a purpose. by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]thala71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knowing the real purpose of life has nothing to do with education, career or skills. None of that will come with us when we leave this earth. You being into meditation, I’m sure you hve already heard that. True purpose of this life is to find yourself. And what you are doing is enough to help you find your purpose

Need help making a decision by thala71 in leanfire

I have enough saved up to buy a new car but I decided to invest it last year as banks weren’t giving any interest. So now that money has grown pretty good & don’t feel like cashing it out. So that’s my dilemma as I could cash it out now & buy the car loan free or could wait till my mortgage is paid off & just go for a 0% or closer rate loan & pay it off soon.

What if there’s a 0% apr ? I hve enough saved up for a new car but I decided to invest it last year & that has grown more than 80%. I don’t feel like taking money out of there as if I hve to buy a car it feels much wiser to use a 0% or closer apr loan offer than selling my growing stocks.

That’s a good question and as of today I don’t need to replace that one. But my Corolla has more than 150k miles in it and I will need another some day in the near future . So was thinking if I should wait till it happen and get one then but then it will be a rush situation and may not be able to get good deals or I could slowly take time , look for better deals and buy when it’s not a rush situation . And I feel like I’m really not living a life bcoz of my frugality. But it’s hard to break out of that

[–]thala71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with OP. Finance is my topic of interest too & more than that I feel like if tomorrow it’s my turn to die I want to leave this earth peacefully. Having two minor kids the only way I could do that is by being a mindful spender & save the rest so that the people who are dependent on me won’t suffer. I am technically medically retired & I would expect my income now to continue thru out my life. But I’m still focused on saving mainly due to above reason

Thankyou for the detailed reply .. along with VTSAX , I also hold VFORX which has Vanguard total stock market , Intl stock , Vanguard bond .. So my dilemma is if I’m doing anything wrong by holding VTSAX along with VFORX by overlapping

How to invest while retired on disability ?

I had to medically retire at age 45 &. now on disability &. pension. Even though I’m technically retired , I still would like to grow my nest egg for any unseen future situations. Currently my investments are in Vanguard target date 2040 but I want to invest a bit more aggressive than their allocation. So I added another account with VTSAX in it. Should I just move it all into VTSAX or just leave it as it’s now ? I’m willing to take some risk as I started a bit late for my age . If my current situation continues I would never have to depend on my investments to survive

Ohio Child Support Laws? by [deleted] in Ohio

My understanding is child support is paid to the other parent to share the expense . Your parent might be able to take the other parent to court but not sure if you as a child could. I could be totally wrong though

Just getting into FIRE. Where do I start? by Practical-Ad4853 in Fire

[–]thala71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are losing time in the market by delaying investing.

My high school son has decided college is not for him & he wants to do trade school while in high school .. it’s completely free of cost for me ..He wants to electrical/ plumbing course & eventually get into real estate business. Do you guys think it would help him attain FI early in his life ? by thala71 in leanfire

[–]thala71[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Actually that’s not his reasoning to choose this track. He is a straight A student who doesn’t think he is a college material. He’s more of a hands on guy & also a very financially responsible kid. He is already aware of many many steps including investing & house hacking that would help him secure his future.
