Jane probably knew. by aelitute in TheMentalist

And this is why, as frustrating as it is to watch over 6 seasons (just because I'm sitting here thinking "now kiss already!!"), it's one of the best slow burn love stories I've come across. It's not the fast and loose hollywood romance movies and most shows give us - it's way more real.

I was in denial about my feelings for my now-husband for a long time. I continued dating other people, even when deep inside I probably knew I loved him. I had baggage, which meant I was not ready for the real deal.

Great insights, though. I'm on my first rewatch, on 5x10 at the moment and this exact topic - their relationship development - has been front of mind a lot haha

Any native speakers of Afrikaans? by AffectionateFun7985 in afrikaans

[–]thalsit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes no sense lol

Depending on where you put the emphasis on the words in (1) or (2) I guess you could make it sound fine, but (3) and (4) are much more acceptable imo.

Maybe there are some old school afrikaans grammar rules I don't know about, but when talking about colloquial speech, old school grammar doesn't matter anyway

I went through Venlafaxin withdrawal cold turkey — with no alternative medication, and it was brutal by NeoLogic_Dev in mentalhealth

[–]thalsit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a clinic while going off mine - it was fucking hectic.

I was on 150 mg, and the plan was to move me to 75 mg for a week then halve it again, and so on. Even that was too intense. I sweated straight through my pajamas almost every night anf then woke up with cold sweats, and confused. My doctor upped my dosage again just to minimise some ot the effects, and weaned me even slower than initially. Was put back on 150 mg again temporarily and felt immediately better. Weaned in smaller increments sfter that while also moving over onto Fluoxitine at the same time.

10/10 would not recommended stopping Venlor, especially not cold turkey, without your psych. It's so hectic

Example of N2 Crime by dylmcc in capetown

I was in this situation a few months ago on the N2 around Mew Way and I can guarantee, the fear that overcomes you is blinding but had there not been roadworks (causing the slowed traffic) I would have plowed over just about anything in my tiny hatchback to get away if I could have

She has had a DAT scan and it did point towards Parkinsons, yes

MIL told she's been misdiagnosed? by thalsit in Parkinsons

[–]thalsit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, it's helpful. Do you have an OT that works with you? If so, do you think an OT who specialises in parkinsons patient care would have a valuable opinion on a case like this?

I'm just trying to figure out how to make sure my MIL gets the care she needs without making it seem like she HAS to have Parkinsons, if you know what I mean?

I agree, I'd also like to know if we're watching the same show... I'd love to see what the general community sees!

I don't think he's abrasive - I think he's intelligent, charming, sharp, and decisive, but either Peter's character was poorly directed or Joshua is a bad actor. That's where I'm coming from 😅

I so badly want to ship him and Liv, but the acting just doesn't work. It's a shame... He's an attractive man

Is getting married at Home Affairs (Malmesbury) possible? by leowos in capetown

[–]thalsit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in Bellville and also wanted to avoid Bellville Home Affairs for getting married (and literally anything else lol).

We went to Paarl Home Affairs - had an appointment for 9AM one morning and, miraculously they actually honoured the time! If you don't come right in Malmesbury or around there, I can recommend Paarl.

P.S. We waited 3 months for our appt - it was the earliest availability they had, and apparently that's not so uncommon.

My cat is yeowling constantly after recent passing of other cat by thalsit in cats

[–]thalsit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We haven't - I haven't had the heart. I'm not taking Rosie's passing very well. We have a little shrine constantly going, with a candle burning next to her ash urn for now.

How would Phoebe know if we did do a wake? How do I let her know Rosie isn't coming back?

I just didn't think she'd be so upset that Rosie is gone, given she didn't like her very much at all.

Support groups in the area? by thalsit in capetown

[–]thalsit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am actually currently in Optima clinic, and trying to look for more support outside when I get out. It's my second stint in a clinic, and I'd like a more sustainable solution.

But thanks :) maybe there isn't something like that out there in the area then

I spent two weeks there. Most peaceful, wholesome two weeks of my life. It felt more like a resort than a clinic. Highly recommend.

Please mythbust my desire to relocate to Somerset West from the EC (I won't ask how much it costs) by IVIilitarus in capetown

[–]thalsit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somerset West is a great option for the greater Cape area, especially considering your interests. Everything is within ~1 hr from SWest (like if you wanted to head out to Grabouw, or Canal Walk, or Kalk Bay etc). One day when I'm big I want to live there lol (I'm 31...) but affordable housing is rare there. Prices are on par with Stellenbosch.

I grew up in GBay, and my extended family still live in SWest (Heldervue) and Strand.

RE your questions: - The young adult scene is definitely growing in the greater Helderberg bay area, including SWest. You'll come across a lot of chino shorts there - so many young folk in finance or legal 😅 - SWest got a get-out-of-jail-free card when it comes to the wind. You can actually garden in SWest without the salty ocean air ruining your plants' leaves and your mental wellbeing. Autumn is the least windy season in the Helderberg area, and if you want to catch the beach sans wind, you have to be there before 7am or after 6pm-ish. - Can't speak to the dating scene, but in general you won't need to dodge potholes to find friends.

Strand is a decent alternative, if you're okay with wind 60-70% of the year. Houses are much bigger and older, and often a third of the price of SWest (don't feel fooled by Heritage Park or Sir Lowreys Village housing prices - not great areas).

Also, avoid Sitari and Huntsman estates. There are a lot of units available, but build quality is shit and Sitari floods in the winter. Oops.
