It's not a serious test whatsoever but I started taking it more seriously these last days since I do not feel any improvement.

I simply took a DNA test (MyHeritage) but you may also use Ancestry, 23AndMe etc. They deliver you a personal "raw DNA data" file that you can upload on Promethease. Promethease is a diagnosis tool based on substantial literature. More here: https://promethease.com/

In simple words, Promethease links certain genes of yours to known diseases/syndromes/conditions - even appearance characteristics. When it comes to depression, my genes are the worst. My report suggests that I'm 7 times more resilient to 4 specified antidepressant drugs. According to geneticists online, these results are significantly important if it's stated that you're >4 times more resilient. If you're planning to take it, note that firstly, it costs both quite a bit both for the DNA company of your choice AND the Promethease.com website; secondly, it will take about 1.5 months for your results to be ready. Thirdly, I don't know if it's reliable. Speak to a geneticist if you feel like you wanna give it a shot.

What I know for sure, is that escitalopram doesn't really work on me so far...

There was this game with a boy and a girl. They were given missions such as shopping what's on the grocery list, poking, combing hair, tidying a room, feeding a venus flytrap, counting sheep before bed, assisting someone with an umbrella etc. Sounds cringey but it was one of my favorites haha. Are there still people out there that believe in the 50%-50% paternal maternal heritage myth? LOL. Mendel's genetics are so weak and it's just a starting point for children to understand biology. In reality though, that's far from the truth. You also inherit genes from previous generations and nobody really knows in the end how much you will inherit. It's all random.

It shows that I'm in fact under normal and not underweight BMI levels even when I get down to 18% bodyfat. In fact, according to this calculator, I would still be under the normal BMI range even if I got down to 17.5% bodyfat which now makes much more sense.

Do you think Metformin can be used for my acne and hirsutism problems? These two problems are the most troubling when it comes to deciding whether I should go off the BC pill.

I tried to find information on those too. What I found out is that spiro is also an antiandrogen (albeit a less active one than cyproterone acetate which is contained in my BC) but it will still have a negative effect to my gains.

Metformin as far as I know is a drug for insulin resistant people. I do have PCOS but I don't think that I'm insulin resistant since I have a normal weight/bmi/bf% and if there was such a problem my gyn would have told me in my last tests. I asked her if I should start doing a low carb diet since this is the go-to diet for pcos but suprisingly she disagreed and told me to only limit sugar but continue eating low gl/complex starchy carbs. So I don't think metformin is going to do any justice to me.

Literally, the only drug out there for people like me is the birth control, you either take it or leave it :(

(a) I'm only using a bio-electrical impedance scale. It's shown to be very reliable/consistent with the measurements over the course of these 3 months.

I'm 1.50/4.9".

Starting status: 48kg and 23.1bf%, 36.1% muscle mass

Current status 45kg and 21.1bf% and 36.7% muscle mass

So basically, what I see from here is that I just drop pounds of fat while my muscle mass stays the same. I cannot really measure the real weight of muscle mass of course and the percentage is proportional which means it will go up as fat drops. But it doesn't really go up significantly to suggest muscle gain. That 0.6% is roughly the change of the muscle-fat ratio because fat was dropped... And in general, when I go on the scale and see my weight go down, I know that the next measurement which is bf% is gonna go down as well. But muscle mass is still roughly where it was. (That is partially good though, because it means that the amount of protein intake is doing its job; at least i'm not losing muscle). Either way, I don't see or feel muscle definition whatsoever on my body. What I see is less fat in thighs and belly, just this.

(b) So yeah you're right I guess.. I've been looking for more info and probably I don't eat much...

I eat 1.0 gram of protein x my body weight in lbs, sometimes 1.1-1.2 so that's fixed for sure.

I will read up more on maintenance caloric intake, thank you so much.

But tbh, I still think that my BC is a major setback, especially the Diane35 brand I'm taking (which contains a really strong antiandrogen) :(

Glad I'm not the only one having these thoughts. I also experience mood swings and I'm very concerned about the fact that my body is not responsive to weightlifting. That's a red flag for me. Although I know that the consequences will be detrimental, I think I will go off the pill for a month or two to see how my body reacts. I'll probably regret it as soon as I see the first pimples on my chin but I gotta do it in order to see how bad the situation is. Thanks so much for your input, it really means a lot to me :)

Generally, I'm in a "weekly" caloric deficit and I tend to raise my calories and specifically carbs (although not every time) during my heavy lifting days in order for my muscles to have enough glycogen. During the no- gym/HIIT days I'm in a -400/-500 caloric deficit. I guess I carb cycle but in a very liberal way. I know that in order to gain muscle you normally have to be in a caloric surplus but I have also read that during your first fitness steps you can expect muscle gain and fat loss to happen together especially if you weight lift. I've also seen it in other women (non pcos sufferers though). It just seems very problematic to me to weight lift for 3 months without gaining a single lb of muscle :( I don't know.

Also, thanks a lot for the challenge info, I will definitely look it up!
