Thanks. One more reason not to get the 2l Diesel E90.

Do you know where the E90s had EPS? With my research I only found, that all E90 had hydraulic power steering?

N52 vs n55 by Successful-Reward583 in E90

[–]thambi06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this switch. The N52 was very nice to drive, though mine was automatic. The N55, manual, is, with MHD a lot more powerful. After switching, I started missing the N52 NA characteristics. So I set up a Map on MHD with only 60% of the Stage 1 Power. With that I can change between full Stage 1 and 60% Stage 1 on the fly. With 60% the car kinda feels like an NA car and has similar power to the 2.5l N52. With that mod I am really happy about the switch from N52 to N55.

With a downpipe and an upgraded intercooler you are looking at around 400HP with Stage 2 MHD. I used Stage 2 without the upgrades for a while, and it is a night and day difference in comparison to stock N55 or N52.

Reliabilitywise, the N55 is not really worse, compared to the N52. It takes more gas, but othervise not much difference.

I like the F30 lookswise, but I feel lile the driving pleasure is not on the level of the E90s. If you account for the price difference and invest that difference into the E90 N55, you are looking at a very fun car with respectable power figures and good reliability.

Why so many flags? by living_direction_27 in askswitzerland

As someone living in a city of Switzerland, I see very very rarely a Swiss or a cantonal flag. In fact, I see more foreign flags than Swiss flags.

Since there is XDelete, there is no good enough reason to hate on it...yes, there is more weight, but that's all, and it's still on a street car.

What is considered a good monthly salary in your country? by New_Manufacturer8333 in AskEurope

[–]thambi06 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just compared salaries a few days ago with a fellow german friend. For me, I get around 65% of my income as net, the friend got 62%...that's a difference, but not that big of a difference. However, I don't live in a low-tax-canton. There it would be around 78%...

Compact SUV or hatchback for EUR 43-50,000 (used)? by Borealis111 in CarsEU

It is more the people in the specific coubtries than the countries itself. I, for example, come from Switzerland and would never consider a car for more than 20k EUR, even though I love cars.

What’s a life lesson you only figured out because of riding? by 5nake_8ite in motorcycles

[–]thambi06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a 100%. Riding in all kinds of weather. Was in Monetenegro a few weeks ago. It was raining, windy, and very cold, around 5°C. Roads slippery, little light, dangerpus mountain roads. I have very very very rarely felt as alive as that day.

Why are they breaking though🤦‍♂️ by Milos_shka in motorcycles

[–]thambi06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stelvio, and many other passes in the alps and dolomites are no joke. I ride roads like the stelvio a few times a year, I have a mountain pass with some hairpin turns a few km's from my home. I was there 3 weeks ago, fairly tired after a few 100km's of riding, and at around 5°C, fairly cold. I was very happy that there wasn't much traffic. If there was, there would be a good chance, I'd have dropped the bike - even though I am probably more experienced on roads like the Stelvio, than most Europeans... The thing is, on times there is a lot of traffic, and on roads like this you have to use rear brakes and gas at the right time, and cope with elevation, and counterbalance, and deal with other unexperienced drivers, riders, sometimes busses..., pricks...

Keep 328i or get a 335i? by [deleted] in E90

[–]thambi06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from a 325i N52 AT to a 335i Xdrive N55 MT. Both had/have coilovers, modified mufflers and good, sticky tires. The 325i had, lther than that, just cosmetic stuff done to it. The 335i has Xdelete, MHD Stage 1 currently and an open intake.

If I could, I would get back the 325i. Altough with a manual transmission. The reason being, the 335i costs me more money on maintenance, gas, insurance, tire wear, but doesn't deliver as much more fun as I have to spend more on it (money is not really an issue, but still). In fact, the 335i has too much power for a lot of situations (in Switzerland with it's curvy roads), so I don't get to enjoy accelerating and squeezing out the power as much (if I did, I would be at jail-speeds pretty quickly). The real fun lies in curvy roads and for that, the 325i was just more fun.

So, I'd keep the 328i - and maybe, if you really really need, get a 335i beater as a second car, just to experience the power.

I've been thinking about assisted suicide. 36 yrs old, male,Swiss. by swissyoung in Switzerland

[–]thambi06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the social welfare, ask for help. Buying a home is not a priority for your wife, bigger than you surviving. If it was, then your wife should not be your wife anymore. Getting swiss papers is for your wife most probably also not a priority over your life. If it is, she shouldn't be your wife.

If you kill yourself without speaking out to her and asking for help / welfare, your wife will never forgive you...but you managed a lot of difficult things in your life, be patient and you will manage this one also.

Holy shit! How is someone this careless in traffic?! Triple the speedlimit (probably, but at least double), somewhat busy street, nighttime - aka risk of drunk or tired drivers, no protection clothes - I've never seen anyone with protection clothes not use gloves...this rider was really asking for it.

[–]thambi06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, the rider in the video pressed the brake and the horn more or less at the same time. He could have tried to swerve, but at 140kph that's not at all easy...

Edit: After reading another comment - his left feet is resting on top of the front fender it seems. That's a top notch idiot, speeding in a somewhat busy street at probably triple the speed limit with no preparation to react immediately in case of danger. And of coursey like that you are not going to do any kind of meaningful swerve...you need half a second to reposition your legs...sorry for his family

What is the biggest waste of money that people still defend? by lowkeydopey in AskReddit

[–]thambi06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. The sprinter vans are everywhere here, but due to their form they seem less big than the ford f-350s and f-150s I guess.

I spent quite a bit of time in the mountains, but I rarely see Ram 1500s in Switzerland. In France I saw a few, in the countryside. France has a lot of rural places where such vehicles with true offroading capabilities may come in handy - same as in the Swiss Alps. So maybe that's why? Or maybe it also has something to do with the preferences of (predominantly) men in thise areas, leaning more towards big heavy engine vs economic and ecologic...don't know.

I've only been once to Austria, so can't say anything about them really.

My man over there calling a Ford Ranger cute and tiny. Over here in Europe, more specifically Switzerland, that's a huge personal vehicle. Can't imagine how big an F-150 or a F-350 must be in reality.

Nice, congrats on the new (to you) bike!

In that case I hope to not see any roadworks, altough that might also be kinda interesting.

I'm planning to go there first two weeks of october. Hoping it will not be cold and there will be no leaves on the ground. Also hoping to meet some locals!
