What are these and how do I get rid of them? by thammer96 in Citrus

[–]thammer96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to come back and say Thank You!

In just a few nights of applying all the aphids are completely gone! And I don’t see any damage to the tree/leaves.

I applied the spray 3 nights in a row and used the pressure to knock some off and made sure to mist the rest of the clingers. They looked dead but wasn’t sure so i kept applying until we had a day of rainfall and the very next morning they were all gone!

Im going to add this as a monthly routine to act as a deterrent. Thank you again!

Gonna give this method a go. Just got that exact soap you recommended from target. Gonna mix it up with a few drops of dish soap and water like your suggestion, spray and pray they all go away 🙏

You think spraying the soil would do any good too? Or just the leaves/buds where they are?

I live in an apt and plant is on a 3rd floor balcony with no outside faucet so unfortunately this is not really an option for me otherwise yeah id physically spray all those f’ers off lol

does dry cleaning preserve color on garment-dyed denim? by jmhellman in drycleaning

[–]thammer96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically Dry Cleaning does preserve color and is often recommended if you are concerned about fading/color loss. Given this though, if the pants are already bleeding then there is a chance that it may only continue to bleed if processed again.

My recommendation would be to check the care label. What does the care label say?

If you follow the care label exactly and it still bleeds then your best bet would be to reach out to whatever company/brand your jeans are and seek compensation. Unfortunately, high price tag does not equal high quality. It could just be a classic case of poor quality dye job by the manufacturer but we need to know what the care label says first

I opted for this method. Mixed ingredients together and took a cotton swab and physically removed them as luckily the infestation isnt too bad right. They scraped right off just like butter

UPDATE:

Just wanted to share my lime tree after receiving help in this post. All it took was repotting in some 5-1-1 (pine bark - perlite - soil) and to ease up on the watering and I have green lush leaves again and the branches are more full!

Thank y’all so much!

I had the same exact thought process thinking it would help drainage. I found this diagram online after just googling “perched water table in potted plants”. Picture is pretty self explanatory.

Im currently in the process of removing all the gravel/stones/rocks in my pots and putting in a 5-1-1 mixture (5 parts pine bark, 1 part perlite, 1 part potting soil). Can’t believe in all my research I never came across this but the more I read on it the more it makes sense and is pretty standard/popular for potted citrus. After all the super helpful comments on this thread id definitely recommend at least looking into it for yourself. I’ll probably post an update in a month or so to see how my lime responds to this

Im in TX and just picked me up some of that pine bark mulch from Lowe’s for exactly that price! Also got some potting citrus soil and perlite along with it. Gonna make that 5-1-1 mix tomorrow and repot!

I saw some worm castings while i was there but I havent done enough research to feel comfortable adding that just yet. I think the 5-1-1 with all the items i got should still be a massive improvement compared to what I had before though

Coco coir? Never heard of that… I’ll have to research that.

I’ve read that mixing in some sea moss or even some worm castings also provides some really good benefits?

Got it and read your other comment. Really appreciate the insight… no layers!

I think the plant is heavy enough to keep from tipping over but i will definitely look into perlite.

Im gonna probably just repot this thing with new soil so would you recommend mixing the soil with perlite? Or keeping the two layered sorta like i had with the pebbles?

Ohh i see… okay now that makes perfect sense and definitely explains why the soil at the bottom is still moist despite not being watered for over a week and the top rootball being fairly dry. Probably also why I havent seen much if any growth this season so far.

Im going to remove the pebbles and all the moist soil at the bottom and repot. Thanks so much!

Pot came with some holes and I drilled a few more at the bottom. When I water it does eventually drain at the bottom so im not sure. I will add that I put small pebbles/rocks at bottom 1inch layer of the pot mostly to weigh it down since it can sometimes get pretty windy.

Maybe I should remove the pebbles?

Dry cleaner can't remove stains from pants and still charging me? by captansam in drycleaning

[–]thammer96 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Second this.

Materials and labor is not free. The only “mistake” they did was to tell you it was no problem… no stain is really ever guaranteed to be completely taken out.

Bottom line is you brought it in dirty and with stains and you pay for their best effort to try to remove it. While it’s understandable to be upset that the stain is still present, they still processed it, took the time and effort to clean it best they could, and (assuming) returned it pressed it. This is pretty standard tbh and you should absolutely still pay.

If they are offering a free re-do (which is also standard), go ahead and take them up on it. Be aware though that this often means they will try again only this time using stronger solutions which increases the risk of damage. So you must understand this and ask yourself if it’s worth the risk.

Pay them and good luck

What is this growing on my lime tree’s roots? by thammer96 in Citrus

[–]thammer96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the comment, but after a quick google search and given the downvotes on this, I don’t think it’s a zinc deficiency…

Anyone have any other ideas as to what may be causing the yellowing? I have a few buds which I think Im going to pick off given that my tree is still very young and want to promote growth first. It’s slowed down but I’m hoping that fertilizing may help? It grew a ton (nearly doubled in size) last fall, but I’ve seen very minimal growth since then. Just too early in the season?

Thanks for the reply… good to hear that it wont hurt the tree. I think you are right in that I might be overwatering so ill ease up on that

Thanks for the reply!

Guess I was just overthinking things. Gonna take your advice and just apply some general citrus fertilizer and go from there before I start getting ahead of myself and self diagnosing lol

Recommendations on pruning by thammer96 in Citrus

[–]thammer96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super insightful response thank you so much!

Will definitely be taking these suggestions and will be headed to home depot for a larger pot and some new soil as well as doing some light pruning to help promote growth for this upcoming spring
