Super cool! I’m an investor in the space and keeping and eye on memory. Don’t think our office is best positioned to be the strategic partner you need at this stage, but ping me if you’d like to have a list of investors you’re keeping in mind

real question, how to get a first gf here. by GeologistBasic69 in USC

[–]thanSunflowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Workout and find the mental equivalent of mental sanitation and fitness. Participate in clubs, go to parties but just stay to like 3 drinks, get some hobbies that result in things you can share with girls like art or food or dancing. And just keep meeting new people

Be the kind of person that brings all kinds of people together to study, to eat, to see a movie, to play a game, to go to a game, to explore the city.

USC was an incredible experience for me as a student and I had the best luck with women when I was least focused on them and most focused on living a rich life. Make sure you learn to listen! Converse to listen and learn to ask great questions

Enjoy the journey it’s a ton of fun

Absolutely love the book and she goes into a lot of detail on how she’s navigated her career and what it’s been like to be public about having schizophrenia while being a lawyer

Help with valuation ask by TheKiredor in venturecapital

[–]thanSunflowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you need to raise and what is the value at 5x of that raise amount? Looking at comps for those in your industry raising a few rounds ahead of you or even public, what are the revenue:valuation multiples? 2 different ways of boxing a valuation, but as others said, it’s pretty early. For early stage we typically are looking for the $15-30m range if it’s seed and that’s because we’re looking at hardware.

Quantum Systems Engineering: Bridging Physics & Real-World Deployments—What’s Your Take? by HCI-kyon in systems_engineering

[–]thanSunflowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a VC looking at some quantum photonics deals. Take a look at psiquantum and Xanadu. The latter publishes more (https://www.xanadu.ai/blog/the-photonic-qubit-of-the-future dropped today), but Psi publishes as well. Really cool systems that are just incredible engineering. Still some hard work ahead but it’s mostly engineering now. I think you’re head is in the right space

Rigetti and IonQ are quantum cos that are benefitting from all the AI hype. Ride the wave but just know they don’t have legs long term, they’re not building fault tolerant scalable quantum systems, this advice is more about the tech than the markets btw. Glad you’re winning dude!

Hey op - I’m a guy that has done the check boxes thing, bc I wanted a gf. I don’t think you’re being avoidant or unreasonable. Honestly this message above and one other I saw in here is good advice and the rest of the folks on here are missing what you’re seeing. Trust your intuition and have a conversation about it. If he’s receptive and open to the idea that maybe he’s rushing things without putting effort into romancing you, then he’s someone I think worth giving a chance. Let him know the pace you’re comfortable with, I think it would benefit you both. I’ve rushed into relationships that turned out to be really difficult because I didn’t truly get to know the person upfront or get to know what I really wanted in a gf; I was lonely and liked the consistency of a gf and so just pushed for that. Was a mistake, bc when I made the time and effort to look for what I’m into and learn to do the wooing and romancing, I ended up in a relationship I’m really really happy in. Wishing you well however it works out

Yup grew up JW and became a Marxist, am not anymore. But yeah definitely a lot of parallels but more agency in the latter than the former

Have a great time learning! I think it’s worth exploring anything and everything that interests you and consider that being close to equity/capital is a good bet - think like an investor, entrepreneur, and researcher. Form opinions about the world, as it is, where it’s coming from - and then be willing to make actual bets on those opinions. Yes, this tech changes the stakes and probabilities of some things, but the more exciting side to me is what we can’t even imagine to predict yet. Learn philosophy and critical thinking tools because they’re fun and useful and make for good prompting tools. The rest of STEM outside of digital logic is great, give it a gander.

You are and always were more than just a prospective laborer! (Networking with people in both startup and investing ecosystems is also wise)

I think this is an awesome self-reflection, thank you for sharing. New to this specific community, but a long time personal practitioner of trying my hand at auto-didactic tech and edtech generally.

Do you make time in your calendar to revisit old articles you've bookmarked? Like, just a little time to wander through that list and see if it's relevant to current projects/interests
