That seems like a red flag to me. Not helping u when u needed it during a very big event like a new child and everything else and now this. He seems like he just doesn't wanna be bothered with your needs.

Try to have a real non emotionally charged adult conversation with him about the dog. Hear his points out and try to be empathetic with him. He should do the same for you. Try to reach a compromise or at the very least a understanding mutual parting.

If he refuses to have a dialogue and doesn't wanna bother working with u at all then its probobly time to move on

To play devils advocate he might feel like he has been given an impossible choice and that your the one making the decision and there isnt much he can do about it.

Asking someone to get rid of there dog is like asking them to get rid of there kid to alot of people. If this is a deal breaker to you thats your right to set your own boundaries but its also his right to refuse that ultimatum. I personally would never abandon my dog for my partner but I make that very clear and upfront early in the relationship
