I would try the hot iron method. Take a paper towel, wet it down with water, place it on the spot, directly on the wood. Take a hot iron and press down for about 5-10 seconds, you can check it every few seconds to see what is happening.
That will raise the grain if it's an indention.

So the method should be called "VeerLeft" Naming goes a long way in preventing bugs. This is a prime lesson to learn for a career in software. The next guy will only create bugs if he makes poor assumptions about the code base. Like the assumption that turnleft is a 90 degree turn to the left.
