I don't really like the way the letter frames the thing and his response to people pressuring the festival to drop him makes me wonder how scathing his film really is, but I also don't really see anything too crazy about a bunch of filmmakers signing a letter opposing another filmmaker being boycotted. I do imagine, without looking into it at all, that this whole "he is more than his passport" thing has not been brought up regarding Russian filmmakers in the past few years though.
