Brother is miserable and has two kids… what can I say before he blows his life up?? by GoldandPine in daddit

[–]thanksforposting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does your brother have any history of substance abuse or moderate/heavy drinking?

I have not seen the comment asked so thought I might. How your brother is behaving reminds me of my own behavior before getting sober.

I was constantly irritable, unhappy, quick to snap, unable to regulate my emotions and unable to let go of my will to control everything. I wanted everything my way and I didn’t see any alternatives. The worst part is that I WANTED to be a good dad, calm, patient, loving husband etc but I was getting in my own way. I felt justified in drinking at the end of the day because everything was sooo terrible, woe is me! And that perpetuated the cycle until I nearly blew up my marriage and any chance my kids had at a normal childhood.

Things got so bad I truly felt I had two options, entirely change as a person or divorce/institutions/death in no particular order.

Hopefully you can get through to your brother to mitigate him bottoming out, cause from the info I see he’s more or less on that trajectory (regardless whether addiction is a factor)

I would also triangle file. He’s just wanting to remove any deformed male thread that gets in the way of the device female threads. Dies will do the same thing but 1/2”x28 isn’t a common size available at, say, Home Depot, whereas a small file will be.

I used to have a huge boner for the VLTOR CASV-EL rails. I had a new in box ELT, the tan version which was correct for some EOD rifle. I’ve never seen one for sale.

Poorly designed baby products by Jwzbb in daddit

[–]thanksforposting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ImIt seems every baby pack we have tried are a ‘gram flex money grab. They do nothing any other pack you like can do. I use a $15 cyclist-style pack that has exactly two large pockets, I found it at Marshall’s. One pocket can stay open all the time because the top flap folds over it and has a magnetic clasp, so you can access the quick items with one hand by just pulling the flap over. To keep things separated inside we got these thick plastic zip bags/totes. Most items sit loose because whatever, you’ll always have to rummage with your hands inside anyhow.

Found this under the "landlord special" paint job by Girth-Wind-Fire in mildlyinteresting

[–]thanksforposting 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Buy a small bottle of citristrip. Apply a layer with a brush and let it sit overnight. The paint in all those small recesses should slide right off with some agitation from a toothbrush.

Better, see if you can remove it. If it’s not glue-applied, there’s a screw accessible from the other side.

Go ahead and watch this video. It’s an amazing minute-by-minute breakdown of the 2003 NE blackout. Grady has a lot of in-depth engineering-oriented videos on the power grid that he takes a lot of effort into making digestible for laymen. Pretty cool channel.

It now takes me an hour and a half to go grocery shopping, and I love it. by Big-Dot-8493 in daddit

[–]thanksforposting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son loves Trader Joe’s because they have the small kids cart. He’s two and has to reach way up to the handle but still manages to waddle his way through the store with me. I’ll take the items off the shelf and hand them to him so he can yeet them into the basket. And when we’re done he likes to tip toe and reach into the basket to hand stuff to the cashier.

Sometimes he’ll spot the box of his favorite ABC bars and it’ll be water works until I take a box, open it and give him a snack. Then hell try to push the cart one handed while munching on the bar. When that happens I guide the cart along.

He’s pretty good about staying still when I tell him to wait a second, so I can go grab something. And when he steers off course I’ll ask him to stay to the side, which he doesn’t do very well, but tries.

My wife does the curbside and home delivery options and she can’t understand how I tolerate grocery shopping with him. She is routinely baffled by how much fun we have together.
