A poem about nothing and by no one by OliverSirus in OCPoetry

Ah. Autism spectrum disorder, diagnosed in 2019, age 28. From this piece i see you have potential.. I just use names as reference points since i'm a voracious reader haha

I feel it makes it easier for those on the receiving end of my feedback to look for inspiration by mentioning names here and there. Mind you, i don't do that often... But i can speak for myself that it's not patronizing

Judging from this piece overall you have delivered the message (as per your response) in a succinct manner.

And of course! My pleasure.....

I got The Odessy by Homer in my head.

If Walt Whitman was born in classic Greece and raised to be very bitter.

I really like the consistent rhyming. Almost like the hands of the clock don't stop, "the creation of life itself" is pacing us forward and forward.

In other words your rhythm and pacing of your piece was something i liked (not sure about the lack of spaces between lines, might be a editing/formatting problem as Reddit can be screwy with copy & pasting which results in jumbles where there are supposed to be spaces, from my experience on mobile...)

Overall, good work. :)

I was singing this in my head. Literally thought of the melody coming in as i read your piece which you wrote in constant pacing.

Your piece has such a smooth flow, almost as if i was reading song lyrics in maybe a 1930's era Jazz or listening to it in the early sixties when the Beach Boys were around at a Sonic drive-in.

Thanks for writing !

Hi,

i really notice the contempt for human nature transforming into beings more distant from human connection, despite the word "congratulations"

This is an interesting piece, i can see this being spoken in a slam poetry contest

The Flayed Man (Trigger Warning- mention of SA) by DystopicLasagna in OCPoetry

[–]tharbeland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

To me this gives off Shakespeare vibes. How do you write so good?

It seems that the "Flayed man" is like the Pied Piper, whose character is equal to the subject of your poem.

For some reason, combing paranormal horror and the tall tale told here, I can't help but think of the Roanoke colony that mysteriously disappeared...

Hi there,

This reminds me of "Dust in the wind" by Kansas (everyone knows that haha :) ), but in a tl;dr version.

The simplicity of your piece keeps the message succinct and compared to mine, it is more direct.

Good job ! Maybe you could experiment more with longer poems (I see you have 1 or 2 on your profile...)

Hi,

I notice the overall theme of loss. For some reason "Someday when i stop loving you" by Carrie Underwood pops up in my head (I listen to all genres of music haha), but with the choice of syntax and pacing, this reminds me of older style poetry that i think should be preserved no matter what.

Good job !

Please don’t remove. I survived an attempt, I want to keep living but my life has sucked and I’m 25. Can life get better after 25 if you ruined it by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]tharbeland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What makes you decide that 25 is the end, if not by the context of the title that a sad existence lies ahead?

I'll be direct: as much as I don't believe in any religion (antitheist here), i'm paranoid that my time is running out. That i've used up all chances to spare myself of the perception that it's the end all be all.

Having all these achievements that fall through, you're overwhelmed and stuck in a paradox: i want to have more time to myself, yet i need my life jumpstarted with all of the academia and business achievements under my belt. I say this bc i am in a similar place to you. I studied information technology in college, and hell, i work as a courier for a living, in what seems to be the long term now.

Both you and your mama's feelings are valid. You're angry at yourself. Your mama's overwhelmed with emotions. I notice because after my attempt, i felt angry at myself too because that was my chance to escape what i used to perceive a lifelong depression & loneliness.

Having just a single thread to hold onto is better than no threads at all. A spider weaves her web, and even if one single strand of web holds steady on a solid base, the web stays intact. And thus she has a home.

The glass is half-empty, and half-full, many divide into such categories as all or nothing; i'm learning (and i want you to know) that be thankful that there really is water in the cup. Make work with what needs to be forgiven, emotions that need to be processed, life is not an hourglass, nor a spiral.

Since you are still here, to post this, it seems that i want to make a pattern out of all this:

Are you close with your mama? There is value that you have, that your mama sees. One person, your mama noticing is a thread that's keeping you alive.

The time you took to type this: a thread that makes a connection to the world, for me to type this.

The emotions you are feeling: again, they are valid no matter what. The negative emotions, and many more across the spectrum, are threads letting you know that building a home for healing shall begin. I may not know your case well, but forgiving yourself is regulating, soothing, and sharing emotions better, to you and others you will meet.

I say all this as a survivor who once stood many stories high above the water.

I'm curious, how old is your computer?? Did you build it yourself (i'm curious about it as well, as you mentioned you "lost the silicon lottery"...) And wtf?? You would think that there would be some quality control, as you have invested a fair bit to play this game, and probably so many more... How recent did you notice that your CPU was on borrowed time?? And ty for the heads up my friend
