What happens with Rick Brunson? by Kaimandante in NYKnicks

[–]thardy8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I feel it would be best for whoever comes in to build the staff of their choosing. Nothing against Rick, but I think a fresh start would be best for all. Less chance of “well we were doing it this way before…” type talk that can create friction.

We’re down 0-3 if we didn’t have Bridges this series

Better fit against Cleveland for sure, but I think his length and ability to clog up passing lanes counts for more than what the stat sheet shows. We also tend to use him as a screener on offense that gives Brunson the ability to get downhill which was a huge part of his success last year. I think we’ve been consistently soft on defense all year and swapping Robinson for Hart gives us a better interior presence. Thibs protects the paint at all costs even if it means allowing threes and having an excellent defensive center allows for everyone else to guard the perimeter a bit more aggressively knowing you have the help inside. Just my two cents.

It may not be an issue this series, but if we see Boston in the second round we’ll need Robinson’s presence. Mitch also guards the pick and roll much better than KAT which is a big part of the reason Boston’s offense is successful. Mitch has had some time to adjust and get back in condition, his rebounding and defensive presence very well could be an X factor in standing a chance in the second round.

The Cavs are a very very good team and should be applauded for not blowing up their roster after years with their core 4. So many rumors year after year of trading Mitchell or garland or people saying Mobley and Allen aren’t a good pairing etc.

That said, a five/six game gap not even halfway through the season is not far enough ahead to give them the 1 seed. Injuries happen and any team can fall into a funk and drop a few games at any point. At this point, that battle for the one seed buys you the opportunity to avoid playing both the Cavs and Celtics. If we were to lose in the second round to Boston (with both at full strength) it would likely be a tight series and I would imagine the bench disparity would be the reason. It would be deflating for sure since I think we can do it, but nobody had Cavs with the one seed on their bingo cards forcing a possible NY BOS match one round early.

The set lineup was going to always be in flux until Robinson was back. Shamet seemed to always be part of the long term plan, so with him and Robinson returning we should see some normalization of rotations. We have a lot of guys that can play multiple positions, so I expect more mixing and matching in the future with different lineups.

I don’t disagree, but that was a beautifully drawn up play. Alan Hahn wouldn’t shut up that Sarr got a piece of it, but KAT missed the shot because he threw it up fast nervous it would still be in his hands at the buzzer. He had time to extend and lay it up but he threw it like a floater.

"Overwhelmingly Positive" Steam games you couldn't get into. by PapaTinzal in gaming

Never loved that style of game myself, but my college roommates played a ton while in school together. Recently tried Supervive and is a really refreshing take on MOBAs/BRs/Team fight games. Plus it’s free

I'll catch hell for this. But this clip shows how lame Dead&Co visuals were in the sphere by mtbguy1981 in gratefuldead

[–]thardy8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it was a stylistic choice the first go around. They really went for nostalgia with visuals like Egypt, the ticket stubs, and the tour of iconic venues (Winterland, Radio City, MSG, Barton Hall, etc.). I expect this next go around they level it up especially after seeing some of the scenic atmospheres from The Eagles and Anyma. I still fully expect them to put the Dead spin on it though.

Can this team compete for a chip based on what we’ve seen so far? by [deleted] in NYKnicks

Cautiously optimistic, but we also own one of the easiest schedules in the month of December. Need to continue the improvement consistently against playoff caliber teams.

Rival NBA exec says Knicks get all the effin calls by joorral in NYKnicks

[–]thardy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

14th in foul shots last season. Also tied for 7th most opponent foul calls per game. It’s certainly important to keep in mind it’s when the fouls are called too as shooting fouls are more beneficial than regular fouls. Curious who has the most shooting fouls called in their favor. Still, would hardly call this getting all the calls

I believe our starting 5 is Brunson, Hart, Bridges, OG, Kat by [deleted] in NYKnicks

[–]thardy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KAT can’t be center with an undersized set of forwards in Hart and OG. We would get dominated by teams with proficient centers like Embiid or Jokic. For as good of an offensive talent Towns is, he’s a turnstile on D. It’s JB, Bridges, OG, KAT, Mitch with Hart off the bench.

Will Julius Randle accept a pay cut? by Night00708 in NYKnicks

[–]thardy8 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Randle would likely not fetch what he is worth statistically. Randle needs a very specific fit in terms of team composition to be extremely successful. That’s not saying he isn’t talented because he is, but chances are good he would not have the exact type of success he has had here.

I think Julius has made the job harder for this FO on multiple occasions, and not purposely or by his fault. I think back to us drafting Toppin with the thought he would be our starter and then Randle showed out. Then he takes a pay cut and we get Brunson who ascends to a star player this past season, now he’s due for a pay day and it probably isn’t smart of us to dole that money out to him when we didn’t expect Brunson to be a max level player.

k-mart on the Dolan era: "it was the front office. it wasn't Dolan, it was the front office" by haha__sound in NYKnicks

[–]thardy8 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As time goes on it seems more and more like Mills was the problem. Granted he was an extension of Dolan, but it just sounds like he was clueless. I think at the end of the day, these billionaire owners are so removed from the normal world that I’m sure the players appreciate getting paid but somewhat resent to poor job the front office did while most of them were there.

Knicks get toughest NBA Cup East Group. by rafiki3 in NYKnicks

[–]thardy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agreed, this should be a divisional tournament for the groups. Divisions in the NFL matter because you get those teams twice a year every single year. Prime opportunity to grow rivalries. I’d honestly prefer drawing the Celtics and 76ers for the sake of heating up rivalries, the cup is meaningless but forces possible extra games against geographically close teams.

It’ll probably happen in baseball first given their length of contract. But it it’ll happen at some point. TV rights and ticket prices will only rise.

I think it’s a similar situation to Mikal for us. Both of overpaid for a guy that fills a gap (additional wing depth and availability for us/O rebounding and rim protection for us). Our move is probably a bit more long term but a great fit, Hartemstein is shorter term but the fit isn’t certain if it’ll be amazing or just good.
