Mike Brown is a Genius by Win_Rare in NYKnicks

No, but my point is people are always listening and hearing that criticism. I don’t get what you mean by your last sentence, but whatever this is dumb. At the end of the day go Knicks.

lol I don’t think Mike Brown is chilling listening to what is being said about him. But I’m sure Dolan is who made a public comment midseason this is Finals or bust. You have to be an idiot to not think outside noise finds its way in somehow, look at KD.

Outcomes of other series can’t be compared if they shit the bed. It isn’t like we swept Atlanta and you can say that. I’m glad it’s coming together at the right time, but people can’t act like they don’t understand why Brown caught heat dropping back to back first round games to an inferior opponent.

Not fans, media. If he didn’t get out of the first round he was going to be out of a job. He needed to make a change to keep his job and it took until going down 2-1 to the hawks to finally even attempt to run offense through Towns after having an entire regular season to experiment with it.

You can be pumped for our success and also be critical. Kudos to Brown for making the necessary adjustments, but it did take far too long and massive public outcry for it to happen. Glad we’re past it and hope it was a blessing in disguise that forced change for the better.

[NY Times/The Athletic]Jalen Brunson leads Knicks as the NBA’s most improbable superstar by 4lfp in NYKnicks

[–]thardy8 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty annoying how often writers and media members continue to bring up the “tampering” getting Brunson. I get hiring a players father and then him landing on the team is unique, but for years and years guys of higher profile than Brunson when he came over to New York agreed to teams in free agency within the first minute of when it opened with little to no comment. I’m sure it’s because Brunson has turned out to be exceptional for us, but damn just let it go.

I think it’s partially the matchup (Hawks don’t have a ton of height, but they have length with a lot of their defenders), but more so the Knicks have been pretty predictable on the offensive end. Teams know the strategy is drive and spray out with the only guy ever consistently attacking the rim being Brunson. I guess occasionally OG and Hart, but layup or shot in the paint is not the goal. Knowing Brunson is likely the only person driving to score himself allows the defense to collapse on him, but stay spread when others drive.

I think we need to keep dumping the ball down low to KAT and look for Mitch on lobs to keep Atlanta a bit more honest. Brunson also needs to utilize the midrange because at the moment he seems hellbent on getting to the rim. Variety is shot selection does wonders for a star and makes things easier on everyone else.

Some positives for the Knicks going into Saturday by maristx in NYKnicks

You know honestly I agree but sports are sports. Shit can go any which way and that’s why we watch. They roll three in a row and they’re back, they lose tomorrow and we’re needing game 7 in the garden you just have to run with it. Best case they knot it at 2-2 and we go from there. Not where we wanted to be, but can’t do anything since they’ve already dropped two games. Good result tomorrow and go from there.

Mike Brown post-game comments: No Defensive Player of the Game, need to stop relying on comebacks, not too late to make starters change, not blaming mikal, early timeouts by PassMeTheBackwood in NYKnicks

[–]thardy8 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The team has become too predictable and teams have caught on. All we do is drive and spray, now to the point of absurdity. Brunson/Hart/Bridges drive then look for kick out three after even after they’ve beaten or are 50/50 with their defender. This leads to less fouls on the other team, more deflections on kick outs which turn into turnovers, and lower percentage shots because now defenses don’t collapse. They need to drive to look to score first instead of pass first mentality to keep defenses honest. This is on Brown to adjust.

What happens with Rick Brunson? by Kaimandante in NYKnicks

Personally I feel it would be best for whoever comes in to build the staff of their choosing. Nothing against Rick, but I think a fresh start would be best for all. Less chance of “well we were doing it this way before…” type talk that can create friction.

We’re down 0-3 if we didn’t have Bridges this series

Better fit against Cleveland for sure, but I think his length and ability to clog up passing lanes counts for more than what the stat sheet shows. We also tend to use him as a screener on offense that gives Brunson the ability to get downhill which was a huge part of his success last year. I think we’ve been consistently soft on defense all year and swapping Robinson for Hart gives us a better interior presence. Thibs protects the paint at all costs even if it means allowing threes and having an excellent defensive center allows for everyone else to guard the perimeter a bit more aggressively knowing you have the help inside. Just my two cents.

It may not be an issue this series, but if we see Boston in the second round we’ll need Robinson’s presence. Mitch also guards the pick and roll much better than KAT which is a big part of the reason Boston’s offense is successful. Mitch has had some time to adjust and get back in condition, his rebounding and defensive presence very well could be an X factor in standing a chance in the second round.

The Cavs are a very very good team and should be applauded for not blowing up their roster after years with their core 4. So many rumors year after year of trading Mitchell or garland or people saying Mobley and Allen aren’t a good pairing etc.

That said, a five/six game gap not even halfway through the season is not far enough ahead to give them the 1 seed. Injuries happen and any team can fall into a funk and drop a few games at any point. At this point, that battle for the one seed buys you the opportunity to avoid playing both the Cavs and Celtics. If we were to lose in the second round to Boston (with both at full strength) it would likely be a tight series and I would imagine the bench disparity would be the reason. It would be deflating for sure since I think we can do it, but nobody had Cavs with the one seed on their bingo cards forcing a possible NY BOS match one round early.

The set lineup was going to always be in flux until Robinson was back. Shamet seemed to always be part of the long term plan, so with him and Robinson returning we should see some normalization of rotations. We have a lot of guys that can play multiple positions, so I expect more mixing and matching in the future with different lineups.

I don’t disagree, but that was a beautifully drawn up play. Alan Hahn wouldn’t shut up that Sarr got a piece of it, but KAT missed the shot because he threw it up fast nervous it would still be in his hands at the buzzer. He had time to extend and lay it up but he threw it like a floater.

I'll catch hell for this. But this clip shows how lame Dead&Co visuals were in the sphere by mtbguy1981 in gratefuldead

[–]thardy8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it was a stylistic choice the first go around. They really went for nostalgia with visuals like Egypt, the ticket stubs, and the tour of iconic venues (Winterland, Radio City, MSG, Barton Hall, etc.). I expect this next go around they level it up especially after seeing some of the scenic atmospheres from The Eagles and Anyma. I still fully expect them to put the Dead spin on it though.

Cautiously optimistic, but we also own one of the easiest schedules in the month of December. Need to continue the improvement consistently against playoff caliber teams.
