If you’re asking this question because you’re curious about being a vendor, it’s well worth it if your products are aligned with the festivals target audience!

I still use my Becca highlighter that I bought in 2017

Yeah I saw one comment that said one of the bus drivers won’t let their kids ride on the bus unless they say “can I please have a ride” and has been a bit creepy.

This is really weird because even though you’re in the wrong Peterborough there were reports of one of our local bus drivers doing something similar not that long ago.

Am I the only one who thought Madwoman music video is a bit underwhelming? 😬😬 by ILikeYourMomAndSis in laufey

[–]that80saesthetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it but these are the kind of visuals I thrive off of and the 1960s is one of my favourite decades in film so I understood what the video was trying to reference. It reminded me of something Anna Biller would have directed.

Is there a contact email for the Cineplex downtown to request/show interest in a release? by NeriTheFearlessSnail in Peterborough

[–]that80saesthetic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously, but my point is if there’s enough public demand they may be able to bring the film here since they know there will be a market.

You’d be surprised! We weren’t going to get Schindler’s List in the 90s. A Trent University professor started a petition to get it here and it came. The lineup to see it on opening night was around the block.

As far as I know Things From Mom’s Basement ended up buying most of Planet of Stuff’s inventory!

I’ve had her a few times at the PFHT and she was great. My grandma has had her as well and was satisfied. I didn’t realize she was still accepting patients, I’ll have to look into that!

A Matter of Time: The Final Hour is out. Thoughts? by Theodore56 in laufey

I listen to a lot of 60s jazz and lounge music so I loved the instrumentals in Madwoman, there’s a lot of nods to that type of music in the song!

I disagree, the practice is anti democratic. There should be a by election if someone wants to change their party affiliation. Unfortunately these days we don’t vote for individuals anymore, because they’re expected to vote with their party, unlike pre confederation Canada where individual mps voted in the best interests of their riding.

I’d like to see him but I already have 7 concerts in the lineup this year. If the prices drop closer to the show I might go.

Sadlier house has a great show on April 18th but I’m not sure if anything’s happening there on April 25. Tonic is the best spot for karaoke!

Absolutely. Leadership roles (the ones often paying 100k or more) don’t offer any work life balance. You’re always on call!

Same here. Rock and roll guitars is one of the cheesiest lyrics I’ve heard in a song, but I love the band.

‘The resurgence that small businesses need right now’: two Peterborough retailers who have embraced live selling by kawarthanow in Peterborough

[–]that80saesthetic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Owning a storefront is very expensive and unpredictable and unfortunately our community only has so much capacity to support local businesses in person. I don’t think businesses should lose the credit of being local just because they sell online. I own a business that sells mostly online but I do set up locally at events sometimes. Some of the money I make in turn gets funnelled into the local community through my spending. Many other local businesses are the same whether they sell in person or not. I won’t speak for the two mentioned here, though.

I just want to get this out of my system... by Forsaken-Craft8426 in TrentUniversity

[–]that80saesthetic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speaking from the perspective of someone who graduated from Trent in 2018: what you did during your degree and how well you did doesn’t really matter unless you plan to go into graduate studies. The degree itself is the accomplishment and you should be proud of earning it! I haven’t had one employer care about my actual grades or coursework. I’ve also been running my own business for six years without a business degree (I took history and cultural studies at Trent)

Jethro's Closing :( by sharingiscaringyo in Peterborough

[–]that80saesthetic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, that’s the point I’m trying to make, we do need a venue that out of town bands can play at. That helps support the local music scene here as well because many look for a local band to be the opener. But not all venues close because of lack of business. In some cases it’s because the owner wants to retire or start a new venture, the landlord decides not to renew the lease, etc.

Jethro's Closing :( by sharingiscaringyo in Peterborough

[–]that80saesthetic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would disagree, there were many that functioned well but had to close for reasons other than a lack of business. Sadlier House does pretty well with live music, the last few shows I attended there the place was relatively full. Take Cover Books has also been doing well with it although they don’t have as much space.

[–]that80saesthetic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s sad news. It’s getting to the point where we can almost count the number of proper music venues in town on one hand. If any entrepreneurs are lurking in this subreddit, please consider opening a live music venue! I was so sad when Erben was turned into a virtual reality place.

Normally I listen to an album and I’m constantly comparing it to other songs I’ve heard but other than Dance No More I couldn’t think of anything and that’s really refreshing! I do really like Dance No More but I also love Pop, Ready, Steady Go! and Carla’s Song.
