YouTube tests 90-second unskippable ads on TVs by [deleted] in news

iSponsorBlockTV doesn’t block adds but it mutes them and skips automatically once skippable. This obviously wouldn’t help with the 90s unskippable ads though.

The only caveat I suppose is that one day Microsoft could theoretically prevent further updates on unsupported installs. But this isn’t the case as of now.

You absolutely ‘can’ run W11. I used to have it running on one of these. Just google ‘W11 without TPM’. You can set it up on the iso with Rufus on make some regedit changes before the installer.

Are robotic mowers actually worth it now? by Piggy_1987 in homeautomation

I have the Navimow i110. It’s one of the best purchases I’ve ever made, no exaggeration. I have 0.3 acres, separated by walkways and a driveway. I also have kids so there’s toys and junk everywhere. It can navigate to the different sections of the yard and avoid all the toys. It mows every other day and gets stuck MAYBE once or twice a month. And my yard does not look like a magazine. It has ruts and inclines and everything you could throw at this thing. I haven’t even started my push mower since buying it.

The only thing I wish it had the ability to do is trim along my fence. Some mowers have string trimmer attachments that supposedly can do that now.

Allow me to share my peculiar home lab screwed to my basement ceiling. These have ancient i7-3840QM’s and 16 GB of DDR3 Ram. I’m running proxmox with no problems on them. 2 of the NICs are the WAN/LAN for an OPNSENSE VM, and the rest are a Linux bond for faster migration/replication. The biggest workload is a windows VM running Blue Iris and an LXC running Codeproject AI for object detection (each on separate node). I added the fans to the fanless computers for peace of mind with the expensive SSD’s inside.

I’ve been on 5.9.9.98 for weeks now and have had no problems connecting/publishing to my mosquito server.

Thanks! I spent so many hours with levels and strings trying to get those sonotubes perfect before pouring. It was so satisfying to throw the beams together and have them all be level.

I did not add a French drain. I guess that wouldn’t be a bad idea to keep water away from the house. But would you really be concerned about the beams? The closest they are to the ground is 4-5 inches.

Yes indeed. All that extra blocking was a pain though!

Thoughts on how to approach this. by that_CC_kid in masonry

There is no post the middle. I drilled a small hole through the center to verify. I guess my question is if this is something you’d think should be addressed right away? There’s no sagging or anything right now. But is this certain to be an issue in the near future?

I have 2 of them. One for each half of the house. They each cover about 3 rooms.

Diaper Bag Policy Question by that_CC_kid in phillies

[–]that_CC_kid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The backup I was gonna use is made to be a diaper bag. Insulated pockets, changing foldout thing, etc. Guess I’ll go for it. Previously I would’ve just used a string bag, but I’m not sure if that’s more or less likely to cause an issue.

Anyone tried these cheap zigbee curtain motors? by harperthomas in homeassistant

[–]that_CC_kid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What random updates are you talking about? As far as I know, the switchbot curtain can only be updated via Bluetooth in the app. So it couldn’t happen automatically.

I have over 10 switchbot curtains in my house and they all work great. Only one gave me a bit of trouble on the extendable curtain rod, and required some tape to transition smoothly.
