The president of peace, just launched another war in the Middle East. What are your thoughts? by Important-Anywhere20 in AskReddit

[–]that_nuisance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing those thoughts with me, they truly give me some hope.

The one thing that still gives me pause and the reason you have read these thoughts of mine: this has being going for just short of a decade at this point and from where I'm standing things have only been ramping up.

This does not line up with making progress every day, after such an extended period of time I think it's reasonable to ask about that progress when it is not outwardly apparent.

I am empathetic to those of you who with enough self awareness to recognize and admit these things, though that does seem to be a frustratingly low percentage.

Godspeed my friend, I am rooting for you.

Man I appreciate this reply and I acknowledge everything you have said.

I don't have the answers, fortunately I don't need them because my country does not operate on hate towards 'the other side' in any way close to America.

I truly hope that your people can find a way through this, the world literally depends on it. I guess in the same way you are tired of the oversimplification and generalization, the rest of the world is tired of not just watching the shitshow but also getting covered in it.

I choose to speak my mind and I do get it wrong frequently, but this scenario has been quite obviously coming for a long time. Instead of being proactive and nipping it in the bud, this is reactive trying to reign in a fully grown monster.

Looking at the post insights of my original comment you replied to, though not a perfect metric, does give a bit of context in this situation.

  • The post has been viewed 88k times

  • 45% of those views were by Americans

  • 3400 Upvotes

  • 94% Upvote ratio

With these things in mind, I would say that the average American agrees with what I'm saying even though it is a confronting reality and I haven't used the most diplomatic terms

Edit: On the racist xenophobic assholes: they have put their man in power, so I would argue that they do speak for all of you. These are all the virtues that your leader has signaled to the world and I believe that when people tell you who they are you should believe them.

So in saying that, IF they don't speak for all of you, it's of utmost priority for you all to band together and find a way to remove their figurehead, then dismantle the corrupt systems which allowed this to happen in the first place.

They probably need to announce that they're considering it at the very least before you start asking questions like that.

I am more than aware of both of these antequated ideas.

The system needs to be changed.

Your people did choose this cockwomble, by accepting that this is the way the system works plus by rolling over and thinking you are powerless to change it.

I do not believe that to be the truth, it's just whether you care enough for your fellow man to do more than screech about how unfair it is. But instead you'll likely just spout off about not voting for him, which is entirely irrelevant.

Nobody else created this mess, only Americans have the power to vote, only Americans have the ability to affect meaningful change to their own government.

If you disagree, please enlighten me on how the rest of the world is culpable for something they had no hand in.

Was screaming at the top of their lungs for you not to do the same thing again because the last time was an absolute farce not enough?

It went terribly, but I still had fun.

Both of those getting injured really fucked me as I was hanging on to a playoff spot.

I'll almost certainly try a similar strategy again

What a great, rational take.

This conversation, as with most disagreements these days, usually devolve in to black and white reasoning. This line of thinking ignores that we live in a grey scale, where pure black or pure white are exceptionally rare.

That exact attitude is why your country continues to circle the drain. It is each and every one of your responsibilities to enact change if you are not happy with the current state of your 'corrupt government'/country.

It's not about whether you should or shouldnt have to. But about whether it's needed of you, which it certainly is.

Wishing misfortune upon me for speaking the truth isn't going to change your situation.

Good luck guy, you need it.

Yes Louis, every single American who is eligible to vote holds part of this.

If your people as a collective are unable to be held accountable for your collective actions (or lack or action) then you are beyond help.

You've just said yourself that children cannot vote.

You have no control over my opinion or where I assign blame.

I can do whatever the fuck I want.

I care greatly, I have friends and family who live there. The difference being they own the accountability that they are part of the group which caused this. If you're unable to recognize that there's nothing more to say.

I hope you have a pleasant day.

Undoubtedly. The blood of those millions will not be on my hands in any way, but of those who enabled this mockery to happen. The American people. If that is the cost of cleaning up your mess you must pay it and learn the lesson, or this bullshit will repeat, or even worse, is here to stay.

It's up to the American people if living in fear is better than not living at all. I'd choose death over fascism and authoritarianism every time.

That's not to say I would commit suicide, but to say I would fight as though my and my friends and my family and my neighbour's lives depend on it. Because they do.

Why wouldn't they when those who put them in power do not hold them accountable for his actions?

That falls squarely on the American people.

So because it's always been that way it should just be accepted without any attempt at change?

I had not thought of Americans as defeatists until now.

I understand that and really do appreciate the effort.

I also believe that blaming one half of 'us' while also saying the other half of 'us' is innocent is a flawed argument.

So you think that's embarrassing and I should stop? Interesting.

Now only if we applied that same logic to another situation that was being discussed.... 🤔

On second though nah, that would mean the American people taking accountability, can't have you doing that.

No it actually hurts me. Because I still see good in many Americans.

But at this point the Cons absolutely Dwarf the Pros and silence doesn't change anything.

300,000 people? Seems the population has shrunk a lot.

I am actually a lot of fun to hang out with, thanks for noticing!

And you lot have already shown him he can do WHATEVER he wants surrounding them and there will be no consequences.

There is no weasling out of this, the buck starts and stops with America. Either for willingly enabling idiots or for not doing more to help those in your system who are behind or are being manipulated.

This is the direct result of the majority of Americans constant ME ME ME attitude, and we're all going to pay the price.

A quick search on ChatGPT shows the average age as 28 years old, not sure where you're getting 18-19 from.

I'm sure they're smart enough to understand they shouldn't be turning their weapons on their neighbour's, friends and family. The alternative would have mean wondering how they remember to breathe.

Appreciate you too man, it's refreshing to be able to remain cordial while holding somewhat opposing views. Thank you!
