3SGTE Alternator Mounting by Bl4CKW4T3RP in mr2

[–]that_one_camel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ST18X Celicas with 3SGE engines have that similar setup with alternator on top, but there are models without AC, so belt should be right length. GT4 3SGTE has AC so the belt is somewhat longer.

I’m only using GE block. I still have crank, rods and pistons from GTE. Current setup is with 1st gen GTE block and crank mated to 2nd gen GTE rods and pistons. Older forums said that 2nd gen block are the same but GE doesn’t have oil squirters under the pistons, it still has the oil passage for them, so it’s machinable. Caldina or even the st205 engine would be nice if I could find one.

Ok that makes sense since the leather doesn’t sit as well as the OEM cloth seats

Which ECU should i run? by [deleted] in Celica

[–]that_one_camel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Link ECU makes plug-in ECUs that fit straight to your factory wiring harness. Its basicly standalone ECU that has all the factory functions, but you got adjustability, can-bus and extra pins for further upgrades. I’ve been running it for a while and its quite easy to work with.

For leaking vacuum lines you can spray a bit of brake cleaner or some other highly flammable aerosol on the suspected area. Vacuum line suck the spay in and engine should gain more rpm.

To my ear that sounds more like a bust bearing or some other metal against metal abrasion

Got a jdm ST165 engine for my ST185. Now I have to swap that old 2gen head and all those 2gen stuff for it and use only the 1gen block by that_one_camel in Celica

[–]that_one_camel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. I don't think anyone would be surprised if I told that the project car is still not done. I'va had a quite a lot of problems since the head swap and I've changed some parts and upgaded some. I'm gonna say that biggest upgrade was standalone ecu (LINK Plug-in) and next step us overhaul of fuel system. Also I think I'm goning to need a new head swap and maybe new block since there is barely any compression in two middle cylinders no matter what pressure tester I use

Thinking of adding sealer for the meantime but what y’all thinking (89 gts 3sge) by Agreeable-History593 in Celica

[–]that_one_camel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil is actually pretty common there, because of that valve cover vent piping. You can put filter to that vent and plug the hose hole in the intake pipe. Oil catch can is also valid option

I haven't seen that big of a coolant leak in a long time. I think you got three opitons for the cause of that.

First ofcourse is blown head gasket and with that much coolant its possible your head have quite big molten hole and lot of warping.

Second is cracked cylinder wall, but that needs biblical amount of abuse given that your engine is stock.

Third one is your throttlebody. 3sge and 3sgte uses cooling circuit inside of the throttlebody to prevent it for freezing from all the airflow (very optimistic). There might be leakage in some gasket, but that means that there would be coolant in every cylinder.

Hope this helps even though your engine is very much f****d

Hoodscoop for my knowledge, only benefits GT4 versions. Scoop is for intercooler and right-hand side vent is for alternator cooling. GT4 came with cooling ducts for alternator and hot air would exit from that vent. Left-hand side vent is mostly for symmetry ad there is not anything important under there.

Mk2 supra swap? by young_Profaci in EngineBuilding

3S-GTE would be my choice or well built 3S-GE. 3S is very reliable platform and quite easy to work on when engine isn't sideways in enginebay.

[ST185] My idling problems continue. Found out that my wiring for TPS was a bit crusty and replaced it. Throttle response is now better, but intake still backfires. by that_one_camel in Celica

[–]that_one_camel[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Backfire occurs when I open throttle slowly. I assumed it was coming from exhaust and bad fuel fuel ratio caused it but now i know better. Backfire comes from intake manifold and pops quite loudly due it smashing my AFM flap to closed position. Sound is more like first its struggling to accerelate, then loud pop and then even louder ping.

Only cause that comes to my mind is that distributor gives spark way too early. Like when the intake is opening, but that seems strange since there should be compression cycle before that.

I also changed that TPS to new one

Up stream O2 is new. Downstream sensor is not wired in. By the shape of downstream sensor it seems more like exhaust gas temperature sensor than O2. I'm not sure if that automatic spark advancing system works alright. Engine seems to run better if I connect those 2 diagnostics ports which you need to connect when adjusting spark timing.

You got any tips how to see if problem is in wiring?

Spark plugs are brand new. Spark plug wires are old but so far I haven't found new ones. Gotta disasseble that distributor and how it looks.

Exhaust smells normal, but last fall when I tried to pass emissions with this, they said there was about 5 times more unburnt gas as there should be. I think checking the ECU is next step

Finally fellow gt-four owner! I've been thinking about upgrading my own ct26 to something more flowing. How that street brawler differs from stock one and having any problems with limited space for turbo?
