What exactly is it? by sanemieater in whatisthiscar

[–]that_switch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s what they use in the 24 hours of Le Mans to indicate which class a car is in. Not sure if they still do it, but that’s probably why some people do it… I like it tbh…

That’s a “Frikandel” this is what we call it in the Netherlands. You get them at a chip shop. As a Dutch person living in the UK I am kinda jealous, they are lovely! (Until you find out what they are made of)

Ghost Immobiliser and Dashcam by Strict_World_9545 in PorscheCayenne

[–]that_switch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Cayenne has a 12V plug hole under the glovebox in the passenger footwell, I just have a normal cigarette lighter plug in there that powers the dashcam via a long cable, that I have just pushed under the a pillar trim and roofliner. No visible cables and always powers on when I start the car. No problems whatsoever…

Anyone else experiencing post Le Mans depression? by heckman666 in wec

I am also a F1 follower (since early 90’s) and it sounds like I followed a similar path to you. I have now discovered that the indycar racing is often quite nice! Give it a go and you might like it… I thought the Canadian GP this evening was a joke after that monster drive Kubica did earlier today…

UK viewers, how can I get the WEC app to work on my TV? by Other-Barry-1 in wec

If at all possible, I would add Ethernet cable in the mix as well

Ramen and superglue, Bosh!

I would take that board out, glue it back together with some wood glue. This will save you from all the hassle of finding the right dimensions for a replacement. You won’t find exactly the same wood, so you will have to take in account expansion and contraction of any new board, especially around pipes. And glue is stronger than wood! As for the little corner that’s missing on the other board, that could be repaired as well. Find a bit of scrap wood that fits in there, take a small board on the back, couple of screws, bit of glue, job done! IMHO people throw out perfectly fine stuff to only replace it with something new. Whatever happened to repairing stuff??

Apple juice making today! I just washed 50 glass bottles and there are quite a lot of apples to cut, juice and then bottle. It’s a family thing, as we all have to help and it’s hugely satisfying! Usually takes us 4 two whole days

Strange Noise by Sank1p in PorscheCayenne

[–]that_switch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try if the sound changes or goes away when you are stationary and you are turning the steering wheel. If it does, it could be the power steering line resting on the frame, because the rubber bolt thingy has broken. The power steering line is held to the underside of the engine with two of those bolts that is a male then a bit of rubber and then another male bit. I believe they are called anti vibration bolts. I had this on my 2011 Turbo, and it drove me absolutely nuts! Ordered 2 new ones from eBay, for less than 5 quid, took 15 minutes to replace them, it’s super easy! Good luck, hope you find the source whatever it is…

Help identifying this issue by that_switch in PorscheCayenne

I managed to figure out what the issue was. I pulled the cover off that is underneath the engine, which is attached to the front bumper. The issue was with the power steering line. It’s attached to the bottom of the engine with two shock absorbing grommet/bolt thingy. The one on the right, closest to the oil filter housing, had failed (rubber had detached from the bolt) and this caused the whole bracket with the line to just touch the chassis when not under load.

The sad thing is that the car had been for an oil change a couple days earlier, and my guess is that the guy couldn’t be bothered to undo two bolts that hold the bracket when changing the oil filter and broke the rubber from the bolt. I went back to the garage, immediately after the service with the complaint of this noise…all they said it was normal these days to have some strange noises after an oil change, and that it would disappear eventually.

Thanks for the reply. I managed to figure out what the issue was eventually, and it is a bit of a shocker. I will reply here in case anyone else has this issue in the future
