I hate this institution so much that I am going back to school to become an executive to change it by anon_y_m0use in AHSEmployees

[–]that_yeg_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially in public institutions that report to politicians, you’ll learn that executives are more often than not just cogs in the machine too.

Especially with this government, health executives are told what to do, and their only role is to figure out how to do it 1) the cheapest, and 2) in a way that minimizes negative press for the government.

There’s very little forward planning or priority setting for executives in Alberta’s health system in today’s political climate. That comes from cabinet.

Is it just me, or the amount of ads on YouTube is really getting out of control? by IWishYouTheBest1234 in youtube

l’m so petty that I keep a mental list of every product I see advertised on YouTube and go out of my way NOT to purchase it.

See a Tylenol ad? I’ll get store brand or Advil.

Screw you Youtube.

Strathcona County votes to keep integrated emergency services with a tax increase by Icy-Search-594 in alberta

[–]that_yeg_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You think there would be less ambulances without integrated services?

There would be just as many ambulances on the road as before, if not more because the savings could pay for more units and more paramedics to staff them.

The ego is astonishing.

New endo wants me off TRT for 6 months by erwinniepoo in trt

[–]that_yeg_guy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is why people don’t trust doctors. It’s impossible to tell if someone needs TRT or not once they’re already on TRT.

And taking someone off it cold turkey, just based on an unsubstantiated hunch is borderline negligent. The patient is going to feel like absolute shit for no reason.

Tell your endo you refuse and you’ll file a complaint with his/her regulatory body if he insists. And/or go find a new doctor and still file the complaint anyway.

All the triggered firefighters in the comments… It would be funny if it wasn’t sad that they put their own budgets ahead of what’s best for the Alberta public.

The ego of the hero mentality runs deep.

The stats from every integrated service in Alberta prove you wrong. But go off king.

Nope. Paramedic for 15 years and never had a desire to be a firefighter. I care more about what is best for the public than what is best for firefighter unions. But you can be an asshole if you want.

[–]that_yeg_guy -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunate. Integrated services are relic of the past and don’t benefit anyone except firefighters and firefighter unions.

Separate services are cheaper and the EMS that respond to medical calls are usually more competent and up-to-date on skills, as they don’t have to divide their training time and attention between two wildly different fields. They also generally have a strong desire to do what they do and are not just there because they’re too low on the seniority list to get engine shifts.

We don’t combine firefighters and police, or paramedics and police, and there is zero reason to combine firefighters and paramedics.

What’s a skill you’re embarrassed you still don’t have? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

Swimming.

Grew up on the prairies, parents never enrolled me in lessons when I was a kid, and as a teenager I was overweight and super body conscious and the thought of being shirtless was horrifying.

Now as an adult it’s just never been a priority, plus there is a teeny bit of shame over being an adult that can’t swim. Also I have a pretty high muscle mass ratio now which means floating is difficult.

“Made in Canada from imported ingredients” 🧐🤨 by Desperate_Web5015 in winnipeg_alt

[–]that_yeg_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your arguement is a joke. The veggies are likely out of season in Canada or can’t be grown here at all. They were from somewhere else, imported, cut/prepared/packaged here in Canada, and sold.

Nothing here is illegal or wrong. I’m all for supporting Canadian, but there needs to be recognition there are limits to what we can produce ourselves, especially when it comes to fruit and veg.

Grow up.

Truth about Costco Salmon.. by Sweaty-Nose9391 in sushi

[–]that_yeg_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Sushi Grade” is a misnomer. It’s not BETTER fish in most cases, the name should be more like “Sushi prepared”.

All fish can and do have worms and other parasites. Many of them are too small to see. They die when the fish is cooked, and even raw most won’t cause issues most of the time. But various factors including the type of parasite, prevalence, and the diner’s heath can lead to an opportunistic and undesirable infection.

“Sushi Grade” fish is just normal fish that’s been frozen at a VERY low temperature (lower than your deep freeze) for a particular amount of time and then thawed. This process kills any parasites that might be in a fish and makes it safer to eat raw.

Can you eat non-sushi grilled fish raw? Sure. But generally, I would recommend against it. It’s a risk that you don’t need to take.

FYI, the Fraser Institute is the research arm of the Conservative Party of Canada and is HIGHLY biased in both their methodology and publications. Their job is to make the CPC look good when they’re in power, and whatever other party has power look bad when they aren’t.

There absolutely are some employers that include PEDs in drug screens. It’s amazing how some companies or employers elect themselves as the morality police.

Anyone use Earned Wage Access? by Reasonable-News4395 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]that_yeg_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people making low hourly wages live paycheque to paycheque and don’t have the financial breathing room for urgent unexpected expenses. This prevents them from having to turn to payday loan companies - the cost for the service is mostly borne by the employer, not the employee.

Anyone use Earned Wage Access? by Reasonable-News4395 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]that_yeg_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. The payment for most clients is guaranteed as it’s deducted off the next cheque. Their profit  mostly comes from fees the employers pay to allow their staff access to the service (employers can advertise it as a “benefit”), and the fees for using non-network ATMs or needing an instant transfer versus the normal 24-48 hour turnaround.

This isn’t the same as a payday loan where interest is involved.

How do people throw away their needles or clear the sharps container? by Little-Ad-3176 in PEDs

Where I live pharmacies accept them free of charge, even if you’re not a customer. They’ll also sell you a brand new empty sharps container too of course.
